Hi everyone!
Been looking for a forum like this for ages, look forward to speaking to everyone!
Well my names Claire and I'm in wallasey, I have a female shih tzu and a DDB x rottie! Just wondering if there is anywhere local that does training for my ddbXrottie, he's a gentleman in the house but a menace when we are out! Thing is I don't drive so I don't want anywhere that's too far out of the area, anyone that can help please let me know!
Look forward to chatting more

Hi Claire
I'm in Liscard and don't drive either but sometimes get the train to West Kirby and Hoylake with the dogs, was thinking of going to Bidston Hill this weekend.
I am always in Central park/New Brighton with my dogs 2 GSD's and 1 GSD cross. I bet your DDB X Rottie is a big lad oshocked
as for training in the area I don't know of anywhere in Wallasey frown just Meols and Hoylake as far as I know, Moreton used to have a puppy training class but not sure if they do adult dogs.
Karen.

Hi karen, thanks for your reply! Wow 3 dogs, I have my hands full with 2 lol, but puppydog (ddb X) is a horror when out for walks, his recall is rubbish, so he keeps to lead, he chases little dogs, he seems fine with big dogs just playful, I just want to socialise him properly, he's 2 in september, we only got him oct last year as the prev owner couldn't look after him properly! Just don't know how to get him socialised properly with other dogs!! We don't know any1 else with big dogs to start the ball rolling with him!! When he's out on walks with my shiddie he doesn't bother her, its just other small dogs he chases although if he ever caught them up I don't think hed hurt them! He loved it down the prom and on the sand but I haven't been on best of health lately spo he's only been going to the park on liscard road, which I do worry about sometimes because of the lads with the staffs! Not sure how hed be with a train smirk he's only ever been in a car!! I'm at a loss lol

Hi, there is a great training centre in moreton, its great for socialising and behaviour training. in the summer they also do agility which is a laugh. the training is made so that both you and your dog have fun. i think it is £6 each time you go.
there is also a lovely lady called heidi who does one on one training in wallasey village at the back Mcgreals garden centre. the number for the centre in moreton i got at the vets in wallsey village and the number for Heidi i can give you if you want it. hope this helps smile

the longer the better.
when would be best for you to meet in the park with your pup, most days are ok for me as I don't work.
Posted By: clairemunky Re: dog walks/training!?! - 26th Mar 2010 7:26am
Yea same for me at the moment frown not working! Would you prefer pup to be on training line for the meet? Duh, never even though about looking. At the lengths lol! Will check next time I'm in petshop! Buying online can be a pain at the moment as haven't got internet at home, I'm just on my BB, and it doesn't always let you go to pay for things lol! So yea ready to set the ball rolling with pup when you are, bit nervy though haha I've been avoiding the park when there are other dogs in ahaha! smile

Thanks Angelina, not sure my boy would be any good at flyball though, he's quite dopey, hed maybe give agility ago tho as long as he can go around in his own pace lol smirk

Hi Annette
I Live in Liscard too I am always in Central Park with my 3.

German Sheps are amazing.
They don't really mature until they are about 3 years old so you are in for the long haul to get through the puppy and difficult teenager stage. they need a lot of time, stimulation, training and exercise - you will never wear them out lol! they will always be ready for more. The earlier you start training and socialising the better as they often develop a tendency to be aggressive towards other dogs, strangers and they can become very protective towards their owners and the property. Puppy training classes will be great for your dog and you, especially as this is your first GSD.

now we want some pics of your pup pleeeese

phew had me worried then. I thought, no way! Rude wouldn't do that lol! glad you explained better tho.

Kept them well away-of course, from unleashed dogs.
But we encountered many big+ little
Dogs on a lead and the boys were v. Interested. They dont have a pet dog atm. The owners were happy to allow their animals to be petted+ it was gud for the kiddies.
Posted By: RUDEBOX Re: dog walks/training!?! - 10th Apr 2010 10:42pm
All this talk lately of G.sheps! Its just nice to recognise that v.young kids arnt fearful. The babes were well happy-and the owners had 'trust' in the animals. We encountered G.sheps, 'dah dah' dogs and 'rats'. All owners+ dogs pleasant+ well behaved!

glad the kiddies enjoyed petting the dogs
that's the way it should be yes

lol i'm glad to hear that the owners were well behaved too. i hate it when some dogs get a bad write up because (in my opinion) if you have a badly behaved dog it is mostly the owner's fault.

Tilly, We (mum, dad sis and me) want ot start socialising barney as quickly as possible so i might see you down the park in about 6 weeks time. I have contacted the moreton dog training club and they say that i can save a space for him but they won't take him till 18 weeks old. Where did/do you go to train yours?

Hi again Tilly,
We (mum dad sis and i) want to start socialising Barney as quickly as possible but he can't go outside for another three weeks and then the vet siad short walks only. So we might see you down the park at some point. I have contacted the moreton dog training club and they will take him if there is a space but he has to be 18 weeks old first. where did you go to train yours?

I don't know how to put pics on here but if you look me up on facebook there are pics of him on there.

your vets right about the short walks Annette, the hips and elbows of a puppy need to develop properly and long walks at an early age can cause problems later especially in GSD's.

training club is the best idea for basic training and socialising. I've had GSD's for the past 25 years and do my own basic training on mine, but I am not qualified to train any one else's, my 3 have a few issues between them lol! I can give advice but thats it. so your doing the right thing by booking him into a good training club thumbsup
Good luck with Barney yes he is too gorgeous for words and I just might dog nap him laffin
