Built around 1860 as the Galloway Arms Hotel, renamed to the Park Hotel then later renamed to the New Park Hotel. May have been rebuilt at some point.

183-185 Beckwith Street on the west corner of Trinity Street and Beckwith Street, Birkenhead.
1861 directory,

Park Hotel,
Samuel Pritchard,
183 Beckwith St
Were they 2 different places?

Newspaper snippets,

New Park Hotel,1866, 1867, 1878, Beckwith St

Galloway Arms, 1876, Beckwith St
Bankrupt,

John M Fullan, Licensed Victualler, 1877, Galloway Arms, Beckwith St.

Possibly changed the name and changed back again to New Park Hotel?
Perhaps I have names in wrong order, I only checked for Galloway existence before 1871 and took someone else’s word for the rest.

Much later maps (1950’s) show two buildings as number 183.

I’ll look into it more.
1876 map,

Appears to be 2 premises a few doors from each other.

Now have

2 Trinity Street/183 Beckwith Street, later consuming 185 Beckwith Street as well

Opened around 1857 as "New Park Hotel" under Samuel Pritchard until at least 1864
Rebuilt/renamed Galloway Arms Hotel around 1869 under Mrs Robertson and Daniel Robertson
1877 went bankrupt under John M Fullan.
1878 may have renamed back to "New Park Hotel"
Closed around 1912 but may have re-opened again after this.

That is brilliant Bert, here is the original enquiry that kicked this off ....

"I wonder whether you could be kind enough to tell me whether the Galloway Arms existed in what I think reads Beckwith Street in Birkenhead in the 1871 census? The landlord, described as a 'hotel keeper', is Daniel Robertson who I think was my 2x great grandfather!"

then later

"Daniel Robertson was, I think, a local brewer and married to Mary Ann Robertson in 1860 - his second marriage I think. He died in 1873 and I have found online a copy of his Will, although I can't read the street name! If I've got the correct Mary, she is my 2nd great-grandmother. Does the information imply that they owned the hotel jointly?"
Glad to help,

If the marriage cert is needed
