The Avenue Super Cinema was opened 2nd February 1928
Unfortunately, it was a casualty of the blitz on 12th March 1941
The site was eventually cleared and The Avenue pub was built there

Wow - that's fantastic - been looking for a photo of the cinema for ages! It must have been very imposing.

The Avenue Cinema following the bombing of 12/13 March 1941. The foundations were deemed unsafe so the building was demolished.

The Avenue pub was built in 1957, and under the post war agreement, it used the licences from the Canada Hotel and the Boar's Head (both of which were bombed).

wow what pix mate!

Cheers Derek. I have to go to Central to take all the kids books back, so I'll look for it there or reserve it whatever's easiest. I thought a few of the houses nearest to the cinema on Norman Street were also bombed? My nan and grandad's house was the only one near the end not deemed unsafe to live in afterwards (no 35).

the books I have are from Central just easier to take them to Northend
Saying that I want to take photo of Central and other libraries before Council gets shut

The FA Sunday Cup - Winners and Runners-up since the competition began in 1965
The F.A. Sunday Cup is a competition for clubs playing in Sunday Leagues around the country and

culminates in a Final held at a League ground.
The Sunday Cup, now in its 43rd season, continues to serve its primary purpose. It gives Sunday

League clubs a chance to compete outside their own locality against clubs at a similar level in

a national FA competition.
The first Sunday Cup competition, held in the 1964-65 season

I spotted that when I went up to my Grandma's the other day... I like the way they've built a bit of a raised seating area out the front... wont feel like we're sat in the car park as much!
Will they be serving local ales?

I passed this the other day.

Its gone.. RUBBLE

Demolished and its now flat where the pub once stood.

I thought it was or could have been converted, but sadly not.

No idea what the space could be used for now.
