I'll ask about for ya wheels, he's a cool dog.

If I was you I would ask for some dollar just to make sure the new potential owner is serious about looking after him proper. Its easy to say yes to a free dog without thinking of the bigger picture, i.e food bills, vets bills, exercise requirements etc his general welfare really

Guttered for you mate no

A bit of advise, these are very expensive to have, they need to be fed proper food not your cheap stuff, they need walking everyday, lots of toys & treats, bathed every week, brushed every couple of days to keep thier coat nice and a lot of attention.

My millies on 3 meals a day with treats inbetween.

Wonderful dogs, i think the only bad thing is cleaning up the huge doggy doo, lol.

Sorry for you wheels, i wouldnt give my baby up for the world frown

he does not need bathing every week but every few months. He is not a smelly dog smile a quick brush once a week will be fine and he has two meals a day. I have a little log book someplace with all his needles that have been done in it. He is a good dog and can be walked without a lead. A lot of people are scared of these dogs but trust me dont be put off. He is my 3rd rotty that I have had and I only got him as my others had got old an passed away (I have them greamated and in two urns by my tv frown )

raftl he was chased off the path last night by two jack russels , so a quick left right from mr kittles would have him running for the hills.

Please only tell friends that you would trust, Harvey is my baby so if I think someone is not suitable for the job then they won't be getti g him, likewise if I find out he is mistreated or used I will kick your doordown smile

why does he have to go wheels?!
Posted By: Wheels Re: Free: rottweiler - 2nd Sep 2008 10:49am
Cos he is to big of a dog to be around a new born baby. ATM he is the baby of the house so another baby will make him jealus . Trust me I really really really don't want to do this. Plus I don't want my missiz to be walking a 10stone heffa when she gets bigger.

Btw hey prefers asdas own dog food than the expensive ones smile

If they were the horrid little yappy burgers that were being walked by a couple, they had a pop at Tarot too. Bullies!!!

There is another option - there's an animal behaviourist/psychologist on the Wirral that can stop the jealousy and teach Harvey that the new baby is a leader, not a toy.

Just a thought. I'll ask my mate for the number when he gets back home if you like.

Posted By: MGCraig Re: Free: rottweiler - 2nd Sep 2008 2:21pm
Wheels.

Have you considered handing him to a friend, or family member for a while. That way, you can have the baby (well your missus), get settled in, then slowly reintroduce him back into the family unit.

Dogs uusally only know to be a "Leader" or a follower, so as long as you make sure he knows your the Alpha Male, he shouldnt be any trouble.

(As a comparison, my aunt and uncle got Millie, their Rotty, when my Godson kai was only 3. Males are much less vicious than females, and theyve had no problems with her.)
Posted By: Waddi Re: Free: rottweiler - 2nd Sep 2008 2:31pm
My uncles Rotty thinks she is ruler of the house, so when I visited she tried the little growl and stare thing to say this is my house, I just grabbed her by the scruff and bit her on the ear, and she submitted straight away, my uncle was amazed as he aint a small dude but is bullied by his own dog.
Posted By: Wench Re: Free: rottweiler - 2nd Sep 2008 2:43pm
My mate trained hers herself to not go anywhere near the baby's room and to respect the baby. She's only a slight girl (she does scare me sometimes though) and neither the rotty nor the pit cross went anywhere near the baby, who is now 5.

The fostering out sounds like it may be a plan.

Tarot does too because she won't stay out of the bloody Mersey or the muddy beach bits by Vale Park! Even when I just walk her on the prom she manages to run off into the river raftl

Wheels you must feel like a right barstard having to get rid and im gutted for you but we thought we would have to get rid of our dog when the baby arrived. She is a hypo/narky border collie and I was absolutely dreading having to take her somewhere and never see her again but she knows what is out of bounds where the baby is concerned and behaves herself around him. I dont
know how intelegent rotties are but our dog just seemed to know!

Posted By: MGCraig Re: Free: rottweiler - 3rd Sep 2008 12:14am
Rottweilers are one of the most intelligent breeds.
Border Collies are THE MOST Intelligent, she was probably hyper cos they need tings to keep them occupied..like a field full of sheep.

Hope it all works out for you both matey! happy
Posted By: DavidB Re: Free: rottweiler - 3rd Sep 2008 11:09am
Asda/Tesco food makes my dog fart all the time, and they really stink.

I'd get rid if you're having a new kid, it's only trustworthy if it's been a pup with a kid.
You should get onto the police, see if it's good for a drugs dog or something!

I dont know you to comment but wow do i feel gutted for you mate. He is a star of a dog looking at him an i know rotties have a bad name but are proberbly one of the best family dogs you can have. They have natural parental instincts and i love them to bits. Sorry for you an cuddles for ya dog.

Are you sure the only option is for your dog to go? This seems so sad. Your lady won't be pregnant forever and rotties are really good with kids. I had Great danes with my kids who are even bigger and clumsier and a bit silly!!! So sad you are prepared to give your baby up
