No sense of direction that Fish chap. I thought he might like to watch the link of the fish moving about on page 1, but I think he got too absorb in walrus that are pretty amusing. You can take your own pictures of these creatures. As in the ones I have put up. There is camera on the link page, top right of the screen. Click, Done, and then it comes up, save it.

Why do walrus have such long tusks and what is their purpose in life ? They don't appear to do muh at all.

I have to see what the bears are up to all the time Granny . You wouldn't think that watching bears catch Salmon would be so entertaining , but I getting to know all the Bears now . Momma bear there at the mo with her two cubs , all say aaaah.

Is anybody else addicted to watching the brown bears of Brooks Falls Kaitmai national park Alaska? It's like a bear soap opera , I know all the names and their personalities by reading all the comments and blogs. THe mothers protecting their little Cubs who are adorable, and obviously trying to catch as much salmon as they can. Find myself on this site most of the day takes me away from all the bad news. Your fault Sunny for getting me on this site ,lol.If I ever win the lottery this is on my list to visit during the salmon run .
Posted By: granny Re: live webcam from africa, a must see - 21st Aug 2016 11:36am
Are you still following the bears, Cools.

Here are some whales. They make lovely little noises. Just woken up for breakfast ?

Not so much now Granny, the salmon run is coming to an end so most of the Bears gone to other places, I was hooked there for awhile found it so interesting and all the chit chat. Those whales are nice Beluga I think they are. Like a lot of people my bucket list would include swimming with dolphins and to go to Alaska and see the Bears. I would like to see one of the big whales just missed out many years ago in Cape Town South Africa, they had just moved on as I got to their spot. Have to win the lottery though,haha..

So much to watch on this site Rocks, I watched the Osprey a little didn't one chick get taken out the nest by an eagle? I've just watched the film on the Gorilla, fascinating animals , love them. We could take a leaf out of their book on how to live without violence. Huge creatures and yet vegetarians . Love this site.
Posted By: granny Re: live webcam from africa, a must see - 22nd Aug 2016 3:58pm
The natural sounds of nature are something special. The wind blowing on the plains, the tweets and animal calls in Kenyan jungle.(if it is a jungle) It gives a feeling of escape, even if there is nothing much to view at that particular moment.

I know what you mean Granny, it's really relaxing. Sometimes sitting out in the garden the wind blowing the trees just makes me want to fall asleep , then one of those horrible little bikes all the young ones seem to have roars by and brings me back to reality with a bump.

some owls kept swooping trying to pinch the chicks when i was watching and also some died by eating poisoned rodents frown sad but very educational

This bison is magnificent. Buffalo Bill killed over 4000 of the creatures. Claim to fame. On the radio today said most were bison rather than buffalo, apparently.

Gosh Granny you were up late. I love this site too, as I've said I'm hooked watching the brown bears of Katmai Alaska. I spend hours watching them and now know who is who as people have named them all. There is one big old bear called Otis who likes a particular spot by the falls to catch his Fish and if anybody in it he gets them out, just reminds me if maybe an old man in the pub who has sat in a particular place for years and won't sit anywhere else ,ha it's funny. Then there's Walker a young bouncy bear who is friends with everyone but splashs about that much doesn't catch many fish. Definitely addicted , in a way although I will most prob get withdrawal symptoms be glad when they go to their dens to hibernate. Those sunsets are beautiful I usually tune into the Katmai site about 5 pm and some of the sunrises have been stunning , just takes you away from all the horrible things going on the world today. Gosh I do ramble on don't I? Lol.

Yes Cools, I was up late. eventually managed to figure out about taking pictures. Have you logged on at all ? We have our own folder to store the pics we take. Which is good, previously I just downloaded to my 'pics folder' but we can't do that now. I had to stay up just to see, but probably not again. I am looking forward to the polar bears, when the snow and they appear and the bison. Only seen one of them, and he seems a lonely chap but quit magnificent. More viewing later.

log on to site. click camera icon top right. press arrow to download. it brings a picture up you have taken. close that then scroll down and click 'done' and then 'done' again. go to 'snapshot gallery', then 'my snapshots'. It should be there, open it up, click on copy and then paste it on here as normal pasting of pics.
p.s. you don't have to make a comment on it when it asks.

Look at this !!! Katmai Country. National Park

Welcome to Katmai Country

Katmai National Monument was established in 1918 to protect the volcanically devastated region surrounding Mount Katmai and the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes. Today, Katmai National Park and Preserve remains an active volcanic landscape, but it also protects 9,000 years of human history as well as important habitat for salmon and thousands of brown bears.

Hi Cools. Just found out (by accident), if you go onto the live view. In the right hand corner there is a YOUTUBE icon. Press that and it is live on You tube.

Just going to try one of them, see if it works to post on here. Everyone will be fed up with us, but we are enjoying it aren't we ? Oh thanks for the pics Granny, didn't get chance to watch much yesterday as grandson was here. Yes Otis is everybody's favourite, so grumpy but all he wants to do is be left alone so he can catch his fish sits in that water for hours. He is Nineteen years old and as they only live to about twenty he is very old, hope he makes it out of his den after hibernation that's as you say if he can get in it. The rangers talks are so interesting telling you all this. Arnt those cubbies adorable, got some claws on them though, I'll be looking in later. As I say it's like a bear soap opera..

Katmai in Alaska still looks pretty good although getting colder every day. Most of the Bears are in their dens now but still a few about but don't think the cams will be on much longer as no one to repair them now everybody left , season over. I've really enjoyed getting to know all the bears and chatting will look forward to Spring and see who comes back. Hope big old Otis who by the way Granny won the Fattest Bear of Katmai award makes it.

Otis ! Did he get in his den.. Well deserved award I think laugh I hope he comes out again. I only look in on them spasmodically in the last 2/3 weeks, mainly looking for Otis to see how he had developed, but he may have gone off for his long snooze by then. Sorry I missed him. Sweet dreams Otis...

Ha ha....feel very sorry for these poor polar bears Granny , having a tough time of it. When they talk about the ice melting and how it affects everywhere else it's quite scary. Saw a video clip while browsing the other day of a polar bear chasing a mum and cub across the ice then killing the cub and eating it. Really upset me but this is what they do as they are not getting enough seals. Survival kicks in.
Posted By: granny Re: live webcam from africa, a must see - 2nd Nov 2016 9:49pm
Listening to the programme tonight, it is a really serious issue. I think global warming is no longer to be considered as a ploy. The fact that ice won't regenerate itself in ours, our children or our grandchildren's life times, with the great possibility of it getting worse rather than stabilised, is a real threat to much wildlife.
Plus the reindeer loosing their natural routes that have been followed for centuries. Heart breaking really, what we have destroyed.

Posted By: cools Re: live webcam from africa, a must see - 4th Nov 2016 10:53pm
Just watching the Polar Bears , I find it quite hard to watch. A beautiful mum with two adorable Cubs going right up to the tundra buggys which have all the people in taking photos and to me reminded me a dog begging for food. They must be starving, makes me sad.
Posted By: snowshoes Re: live webcam from africa, a must see - 4th Nov 2016 11:11pm
It may sound hard cools but it represents easy food for them.
There are many reports of the Bears increasing in numbers.
In Churchill, Manitoba they are a real problem as they come into
town and roam the streets looking for food.

I do not believe in Global Warming. I believe it's a cyclical
thing of the Earth.
Posted By: granny Re: live webcam from africa, a must see - 4th Nov 2016 11:15pm
I think they said the other night that they have to wait for the ice to form before they can get their food, which is further away and not forming as quickly as it should be in these days of global warming.

Ooops sorry Snowshoes, I see your point about global warming. They were explaining the other night on BBC Live from Manitoba that the sea warms and less ice is forming, so there is a bigger area for the sea to warm and then less ice forms,...so it goes on. (I think I've got that right, something like that anyway)

Once the Polar Bears go to the ice we can follow some collared P Bears on here.
They hunt all winter and return to land when the ice melts , about June/July

Not cold enough for them though! They just curl up on the ice and go to sleep to conserve energy.

Snowshoes could probably tell us a lot more about these bears. where are you Snowshoes snowman ?

Think I was spoilt by watching those fat bears of Katmai catching all the salmon and the beautiful scenery. Be interesting to see all that fat gone when they emerge from their dens and who we see again.

This was the last video of yesterday. They've stopped transmitting now. The bears are 2 or 3 weeks behind this year.

Good luck little bears. Hope you find some food soon.

The buggy is like a hotel apparently, loads of coaches like a train. The tourists stay on it and sleep on it.. Sounds fun.

granny, is this really live? Ive just been watching the Keyna one , and its lovely to see, but rather than live, it looks more like 'best bits of' as it catches seemingly really active cute or dramatic bits , never seems to be anything boring or an animaless screen. Even if theres half a dozen cameras and they are flicking from one to another , it seems pretty 'organized' to get nothing but action?
Posted By: cools Re: live webcam from africa, a must see - 3rd Dec 2016 1:07pm
You must be watching highlights Venice. All the best bits put together usually shown when they have a problem with camera etc.

Venice, as Cools says, it will be best bits at the moment They are a different tome to us and when I posted it was live. It will be live again later today and tonight. It is now 7.24 am and sunrise is 8.48 am in Manitoba. So the live feed will come back after that. The sunsets were lovely last night. Here is one from the Aurora link just as sunset kicked in : You might be able to see the moon and star. The Aurora Borialis tends to appear later and you can scroll down and see what they say about the best times.

You seem to have to register? Does it bring more advertising and pop ups etc after youve joined ?

I had to re register to watch Corrie on ITV player last week , now today they have put a blinking pop up box in the middle asking if they can store information on my pc - I looked it up and it said if you press yes, they can store unlimited amounts of whatever. So- Im bit wary of registering for anything. I pressed dont allow, but it came back 2 mins later with the dont allow button deactivated.

No pop ups at all. Just straight forward. I didn't have to register initially. Must have changed it, but there is absolutely no problems with it.

These webcams are amazing, yep one false step and that little ones a goner...no I don't think they know where the dens are but I know the rangers came across bones and skull of a bear and they were able to identify and name him, Lurch he was called and they showed him fishing at the falls ,quite sad knowing he was now dead. I watch alot of the Alaska shows and the people who live there, I've gotten to know the characters but alot of it is sustenance hunting,I can't watch when they shoot and they shot a bear, I thought at least the Katmai ones are pretty protected.

Yes I'm not sure I like the new setup Granny, can't get it quite right myself , a few others are having trouble as well. it's been abit quiet lately with the bears. Otis hasent been seen since he trundled off down river after his very public sleep but think there is a second run of salmon coming and this brings them back to top up ready for hibernation. It's gone so quick this year.

Not having any luck. Since my last post, every time I access the site it freezes and causes my whole computer to freeze. So I have to close everything down, re-boot and start again. Try again and the same thing happens. Tried about 6 times now and it's become very annoying.
Do you have the same problem, Cools ?
Posted By: cools Re: live webcam from africa, a must see - 23rd Aug 2017 3:32pm
I use a tablet Granny and it does that quite often on this site now, as you say freezes and closes itself. It's not all the time so I do get to watch a fair bit. Think alot if folk having trouble , it was ok as it was but always someone got t think they can make it better. I find the most annoying thing when I'm reading comments there is a blurred screen to the side which should be showing something but on forum someone said you have to use app or something. It's so annoying as you try to read comments. Maybe they will get that many complaints they may go back....

Posted By: diggingdeeper Re: live webcam from africa, a must see - 23rd Aug 2017 7:11pm
Explore uses youtube for the videos. Chrome seems to lock up on longer youtubes in my experience.

Current firefox releases have been very stable so I tend to use that but I also use edge and internet explorer.
Posted By: granny Re: live webcam from africa, a must see - 23rd Aug 2017 9:29pm

Thanks Cools, so it's not only myself. I use Internet Explorer, with no problems anywhere else. I'll give it a couple of days and see what is happening. They may sort it out but unfortunately if people can't get access they may not even know the problems.. no one to report it.

The other thing is I logged on but am unable to log out again. Not that it is of any matter.

Snowshoes is ok, but you're closer. Does that count ? laugh

Can you get it ok DD, or maybe you haven't tried ?

Thanks for all your response.

Can't watch operations Granny, too sqeamish! Don't know whether you have looked in on the Bears? It's all starting to get very quiet now as alot have left the Falls to go den, but we were all transfixed and excited watching a bear family climbing Dumpling Mountain something that is rare to see. There is a video of it.. we think on there way to find a den. Worth a little look as they are quite clear...
Posted By: granny Re: live webcam from africa, a must see - 21st Oct 2017 9:35am
I am having real trouble with explore. I can't log on as it won't accept my password. Request a reminder and it never comes through, also tried to rejoin and it won't let me. Every time I try to again the whole of my computer seizes and it's another case of close everything down and reboot.

So , I don't really go onto it very often. I will have a look for the bears again, has Otis disappeared yet ?

The little bobcat, named Banshea was 22 yrs old, he didn't make it in the end, and they only did prelims. He was very poorly.

That's a shame Granny. It seems to have settled down abit but still having it's problems. Yes Otis has gone most probably nestling down in a cosy den somewhere, hope so anyway.I did try and put video up of dumpling mountain bears but this tablet won't let me, obviously be being a dummy smack..bring it up on you tube if you want just type in bears climb Dumpling Mountain....

Can't wait to see some of my favourite bears , Otis, Graser and see how all the little ones have grown since last year. Hope Otis made it , he's an old old bear.
Well that's me now glued to the ipad for the next few months ..

Oh Cools, I hope Otis appears again. It seems such a long time since they hibernated. I thought he would have been out by now with a lot of others.
I think I can log in now, or I could last time I tried . Hope so.
Posted By: cools Re: live webcam from africa, a must see - 20th Jun 2018 8:26am
Well Granny there is only two cameras live at the moment , Falls and underwater one. Don't expect we'll see any action at the falls until the salmon run starts which won't be too long and then the feast will begin...when they switch on the lower river camera and by the bridge we should then be able to see some of our furry friends. Rangers have reported some sightings but not if Otis yet . Hopefully he'll turn up at Falls to get his share of salmon. Me I become totally obsessed with watching all the characters of these bears they all so different. I'm beginning to recognise them now and with the help of others on forum can keep up with them. As I say like Bear Corrie ha.
It's my escape from all the doom and gloom going on in this country and the world , well fed up of Brexit and all the politicians at the moment.
Posted By: granny Re: live webcam from africa, a must see - 20th Jun 2018 9:20am

Well I'm almost in tears ,Cools. Last night after seeing your post, I went onto explore, the river was gushing and I saw a few comments so decided to log on.
That was the end. I suppose I am one step further, being able to log on. However as soon as I did the whole thing froze my computer. I couldn't log off, so left it until this am. When I started up this morning I'm still logged on and going onto the site still freezes everything on my screen. So can't log off, can't see anything, freezes the whole computer and I have to close down every time I dare to try to access it.

What am I doing wrong ? Using Internet Explorer might be the cause, but can't see why... always have done and the same doesn;t happen on any other site.
Posted By: cools Re: live webcam from africa, a must see - 20th Jun 2018 9:53am
Oh hell Granny that's not good. I use an iPad and it seems ok occasionally freezes but not too bad. Not good with computers at all. I've just logged on with no probs had to tick that discus thing to agree to their terms have you done that ? Don't know if that would help .

I'm seriously upset as I loved to follow the different animals in places on the world map. This being the second year of no luck, I assume it will always be the same.
You will have to keep me posted on Otis.. Cools.

Sorry you having trouble getting on site Granny, I have some problems but I would be going mad if I didn't get to see and read what's going on. Yes Otis returned yesterday much to everybody's delight, we all love Otis.
Having abit if a hard time though because there are lots of big boys there who don't like sharing space at the falls. All trying to sort the order of toughest bears. Quite sad to see him being chased off by the young bully bears. That's how it is in bear land though.

Well I think one of them will have a gun , definitely all have bearspray think that's a must at Brooks camp....I would love to go there but would be nervous as you come across these bears in camp and on the footpaths. Would have to be with a big group and a ranger. You do have to go to a talk about how to act when you get to this place but their safety record is very good . These bears are very used to being around humans as long as you give them their space and with plenty of salmon about hopefully humans not on their menu!
Yes Otis is doing ok , he has his little scuffles and usually moves off to these younger ones. All the bears having a tough time at the mo because of this top bear who is so aggressive and grumpy. Just called 856 he's a mean badass. As soon as he comes on the scene all other bears are on edge and many make a swift exit. You can almost hear that music ' The good the bad and the ugly 'as he walks. Everybody was upset on Wednesday because he chased after one of the big boars and unfortunately came across a sow with two little Cubs. He killed one cub the other shinned up a tree , momma got hurt and ran off so poor little bear stuck up a tree wailing all day. Finally came down and nobody knew what happened to it. Thankfully the mum and cub reunited and were seen together.
Oh the dramas of the brooks falls bears, but as the ranger said he's only being a bear and you don't get to the top by being nice.
Pity you can't get on I am addicted, it's a relief when they hibernate and I can get back to normal ,ha.

I watched the 'bad boys' . Thanks Cools. Are they last years babies ?

Tonight I am delighted as I deleted browsing history, and it has righted Explore.org for me. I can at least see the different cams now, but I will not sign in again, just in case the problem returns.. Now I can watch all that's going on..

.

Glad you can watch again Granny. Haven't watched too much today been busy . It's crazy at the the moment so many sub adults, they're like the teenagers hanging around the falls . They are the little ones who get run off by momma when they about 2 years. It's dangerous for them to be around when the mating starts , the boars kill them so they can get to the sows. You feel so sorry for them because their mom can be fishing and getting salmon but they get none . I think they in their prime when about 5 years old and then they have to assert themselves and try to be top bear. As I say 856 so aggressive ,so tense when he about.
Hark at me a right David Attenborough I think I am,not. Ha .
They've started a Gorilla camera now as well, early days yet but that's another animal I'm fascinated with, god that means nothing will get done now .lol..

Got it all sorted now, Cools.. Changed web browser.

Just been watching the salmon. They are hanging about for something although I don't know what. Looks as if they are lining up ..1,2,3, GO !

No bears at the falls. Maybe they know something and hoping to catch their feast further down.. You could possibly throw more light on it.

Just had a quick look and read if the forumn, haven't had chance till now..One lonely bear at the Falls , no fish ajumpin, think that's it now at least till September when another run comes. Think most of those fish have spawned and dying , that's when the bears as you say go off to easier places to catch the fish as they not moving so quick. We could still see a few bears around , hope so. There has been a wolf at the falls quite a lot.
Never mind Granny at least you can watch the Gorilla cam when that's up and running, they're working on it. That should be good . Must say the bears site you do get a lot of buffering and freeze so hope it's better with The gorillas.

Just shows, you know lots about these bears and fish. I didn't know that they had already had the salmon run. I thought the fish were still waiting to go up river.

Is Otis around still and is he as fat ?
Posted By: cools Re: live webcam from africa, a must see - 25th Jul 2018 2:21pm
I think you're right Granny about the fish pooling and getting ready. I only go off the forumn people and what they say but it seems one of the rangers said as soon as wind changes or something they will all be on the move and hopefully see abit more salmon catching. So keep having a little look . Otis was there last night I had a quick look before I went asleep and he was in his office as they call it.Moving quite slowly these days but ye piling on the fat. Sorry meant to say we have had a lot of salmon and bears catching there were up to 20 bears there one day. I think the salmon come in pulses so there will be loads then nothing few a few days.

Have you seen this pretty little lady bear, Granny? She's a beauty silver and grey , unusual colours as they mostly browns and blondes. As someone said " good job she's at Katmai and protected as hunters would love to have that coat" let's hope she stays at Brookfall.

Gosh Cools. Not having looked in on them for a while, I; got out of the habit. No , hadn't seen this lady. She is gorgeous. Does she have a name ?
I would love to know Otis has any offspring, but I doubt anyone would know, its all done under cover probably !

I can't believe what I have just seen happened at Brooks falls yesterday!!! Some brainless idiot climbed from the viewing platform and waded into the water where all the bears are. So proud of himself huh I hope he gets thrown into jail! If one of those bears had got him the poor thing would have most probably been shot. MORON!!!

Unbelievable ! He could have easily lost his footing. Surely there must be some rangers around to keep the idiots in line ? There's always ONE crackpot and he could have probably got just a good a photo with a zoom.

OTIS BACK ? My goodness, and he 's taken up position in his office too, by the looks of it. So pleased, he always causes a bit of concern when waiting to see him surface each year. Magnificent old chap. nice the pic Cools, did you take that one ?
Posted By: cools Re: live webcam from africa, a must see - 24th Jun 2020 9:14pm
Me take it Granny as if ha. You know me and tech we hardly gel. No I just copied it from the many that are on the forumn. Ye he looks good needs to bulk up a lot but that will come when the fishies start jumping. Like seeing him in his office as they call it.

Good fun watching. Just watched this heron at Tau Waterhole catch and eat the biggest fish I have ever seen. Took him ages to get it down. It must surely be breakfast ,dinner and tea in one .
There's a bit of a rumpus going on there tonight. Not sure if it's the monkeys kicking off or what.

Are you on computer ? If so, when you see an image you would like , go to the camera sign at the top middle of the live video, press and then save. It will go into your pictures. Click on Gallery top right, and then on the left you will see 'my gallery'. Click on that and you will see your pics. Then you can save them to your own computer if you want to. Got it ??

To get back to the main screen you were watching just click back key.(I think) I quite often mess that up and have to start again. Haha !

Admittedly there are plenty of pics to use taken by others. Otis does look a bit skinnier than normal but it won't take long with all that salmon..

Ha , he's a monster, I remember that he could hardly walk, They have a fat bear contest at end of season and people vote who is fattest. He's always one if the contenders but there is a sow called Holly and her belly practically drags on floor. She usually winner.
Posted By: granny Re: live webcam from africa, a must see - 25th Jun 2020 6:41am
Must look out for Holly. Probably can't miss her .

Tembe Elephant park. No elephants, but I think they got up earlier !

Been awake early this am. In the last hour these are some of what I have seen. The dawn chorus was amazing there and various animals have come to the water hole to start the day.. What a wonderful start to any day. Enjoy yours, everyone.

Great pics , it's such a great site isn't it? I tend to get so consumed with the bears I forget about all the other cameras showing us such great wildlife. Just spent an hour looking at them , time flies though you could waste the day away you have to force yourself to stop looking. Like the gorillas one. As you say Granny the sounds are great to listen to with your eyes closed , imagine you there. Well done Explore may you continue..

Looking in on Brooks Falls , Katmai Alaska to watch the bears fish, saw this and thought that's a skinny bear. Very surprised to see it was a wolf , doing what the bears do. Amazing haven't seen this before caught loads as well.

Cracker Cools.
I'm surprised a bear doesn't shoo the wolf away, haha!
Posted By: mikeeb Re: live webcam from africa, a must see - 4th Jul 2020 2:47pm
Yes! The wolf just got a catch. happy
Posted By: cools Re: live webcam from africa, a must see - 4th Jul 2020 4:11pm
Ye caught loads Mikeeb, I thought it would run when it saw bear but no.
Posted By: mikeeb Re: live webcam from africa, a must see - 4th Jul 2020 4:44pm
Once the wolf caught one, (I'd imagine 1 salmon will fill a wolf) the bear that took his spot caught at least 15, greedy bugger, haha! But they are know to just eat the roe when there is plenty of booty.
