British Gas rang me an asked me to have smart meters installed last August.Appointment made, fitter turns up, connects the electric meter and then looks at the gas meter. He decided that as it needed a bend in the pipe that he did not feel qualified to install the gas meter, very sorry new appointment made for October 14th. on the 13th October a call from BG to ask could they please put the appointment back as they were very busy.New appt made for 20th November between 12 and 4pm. At 445 I rang the number on the appointment letter to ask where is your man and I was told that I must ring another number. At this point I got a bit cross and told her to ring the other number as they wanted me to have the meters installed. No response so I emailed them and got the automated reply that I would get a response within 3 days.Silence so I emailed again and this time I got a phone call 8 days later apologising for all the nonsense and that as a result I would be entitled to a payment of £44 for missed appt and delay in replying. By this time I had switched to M&S energy which should be cheaper if it works out plus £100 of M&S vouchers. Sorry not much help in helping you to make a decision but that is my experience of smart meters. We have the electric one up and running but frankly it is less use than a chocolate teapot in helping to decide about fuel consumption.

I have had gas & electric smart meters fitted, quickly, on time & efficiently. The only confusing thing is that the remote monitoring readout seems to read a lot higher than the bills actually show. The bills seem to be about the same as they were last year though.

I have a smart gas and a smart electricity meter along with a "combined" dual fuel plan that is managed as an "online" tariff. The meters themselves are small and compact and work with a smart energy monitor to show how much energy you're using and how much it's costing in real-time. So you can see how much you're spending by leaving your phone charger plugged in all the time, or the heating on at night. And when you can really see how much you're using, you can start to make small changes to use less and save money on your bills. The electricity meter plays host to the gas meter in such a way that the gas readings are transmitted to the electricity meter and sent to your provider via a sim card inside the electricity meter at around midnight ever night. The gas meter contains a 10 year life span battery.

Just another way of putting people out off work as there will be no need for meter readers

whatever you do do not get a smart meter it gives off a lot of radiation its a small mobile phone mast in effect, the amount of people who are having addverse effects to their health in ammerica where they are becoming wide spread now is large and quite worring, sleep disturbance eczma lower immune function and cronic fatige and heart problems are just some of the things being investigated, also it can send data on what you are doing in your home by what appliances you are using and when, an invasion of privacy if ever ther was one. poeple are trying to get them removed in a lot of cases in california because of adverse reactions to their health. i for one will do evreything to not have one installed when they start getting pushed more here.
