We have some evergreen leylandii trees in the garden, and TBH I want to 1/2 their height to about 12 feet - I have a southern facing garden and at this time of year they block a lot of light frown

I'm snookered with my back hedge, a blackbird has started nesting there so will have to hang fire.

From chatting to a couple of the guys doing the work there seems to be two reasons for the big chop.

1: They've suddenly found a lot of trees that are basically dead inside, and it's only the outer growth that's keeping them vertical, good gust of wind and they'll be down.

2. It's the end of the tax year, and if they don't spend it all quickly they'll get less next year.

thumbsdown nope, the only things that are dead inside are these chopper fellas. SAVE OUR TREES mad

I don't think it is just local to Wirral. They've severely cut the hedges out near where I work in Warrington. They've also been cutting trees beside most of the motorways I've been on lately - M56, M6, M62 + M5. I did wonder if it was because the grass didn't need cutting til later because of the weather if they were having to find the guys something else to do.

Eastham Woods has had a good load taken down. most of them are fine but there are a couple of them completely hollow on the inside (Should call it Eastham Hollow) they usually cut down the trees at the yachting lake to stop chavs hanging out there and at the small hill nearby where they usually have bombfires and spraycans all around
