Seems there is no sign of this car. Belonged to a friend of my wife.

She needs a car for her job so is stumped at the moment.

I am not familiar with procedures etc when a car is stolen so I have difficulty giving the lady advice. Any help from here will be appreciated.

The police said "wait 72 hours" - not quite sure why they said that. I guess because if it does not turn up somewhere within 72 hours (now almost passed) they will regard it as having been properly stolen.

Her insurer (Sainsbury) said it would be 24 hours until someone from their side could discuss the issues. Humph! is my comment to that.

Presuming the car is "properly gone" or is likely to be trashed if found what are the procedures and how long is an insurer likely to take to pay out on a fairly low value car?

The lady has had it just a year and I think the value was stated as the £3800 purchase price a year ago.

How was it taken? Was the key used?

Was thinking the same. The 107 isn't really in high demand for thieves, and the immobiliser system in the key is usually comprehensive in preventing it being started.

You want to see the problems Pug owners have syncing the key and starting the car when changing a key or battery.

The car has already been given a once-over by the garage and no reported problems. Had only been moved about 3/4 mile max by odometer. No locks damage so either a key or someone is real smart.

Glad it was found. From the details you give, I suspect the owner moved it and then forgot!

The car above having been reunited with the owner has now suffered another theft. Yesterday it was parked in an Aldi car park (Not sure which one) and someone pinched both the front and back number plates!!

WHY??

Normally when a scally has nicked a car they will LOOK to see a the same year/ model on the road, will note the number, and then get a back street place to make up a set of plates. That way both cars drive around and ANPR etc will not detect any issues. Pinching the plates surely they must know it will be reported to the police pdq - so the number will show up whenever seen.

The downer, as the police told the car owner, is that likely she will get all sorts of notices for speeding, parking and worse. The dated/ timed Police Incident Number will get her out of that but she will still have the hassle.
