The UN has denounced the claim by the USA and Israel that Jerusalem is the Capital of Israel.

128 votes to 9 with 35 abstentions shows a pretty conclusive world opinion.

No doubt Trump will now stop all UN funding or some other similarly childish response but that's life, you have to take a stand at some point.

He was saying Jerusalem is illegally occupied territory. It's a crime under international law, to make any permanent changes to territory acquired by force. Jerusalem was acquired by force. To declare it as a capital after being acquired by force is a permanent change. Therefore, illegal under international law.

It seems that riding rough shod over everything to support Israel is the 'way to go' these days. With the tensions in the area , and so many different countries involved in disputes of everything in the area, it could be seen as if someone wants to light the touch paper.

As the UN is largely financed by America, it cannot do anything to stop them. Passing resolutions gives an appearance of independent action which suits both America and the UN.

It is, however, utterly and completely irrelevant to what America and Israel will do.

My bet is that it's only a matter of time before it goes nuclear, probably with someone smuggling a nuke into Jerusalem.
