I don't think anyone can deny the effort he put into children's TV and other work. Sad loss of one of the icons.

I am sorry that anyone dies. But I can't see why someone whose only real claim to fame was that he appeared on telly a lot deserves more grief than anyone else I didn't know. Did he have any particular talent?

I remember meeting him at the Mersey Tunnel 75th Anniversary. He was really winding up some old biddy who looked like she was about to clout him:

I met him at the Watford Gap services about 4 in the morning with my parents I was about 8, we were going to Dover to get the boat and he was on another table with others.
