Thankfully been put out, down to flares and fireworks being set off by Liverpool football fans , having a party at Pier Head....what's up with these people , mindless idiots.!

The social media is busy defending LFC supporters apparently those at the pier head weren't supporters, just troublemakers wearing Liverpool shirts and cheering when the fire started, not much condemnation from the media over the illegal gathering outside the ground.

Football the be all and end all for many, feel so sorry for their families.

Looks like Joe Anderson was 100% correct about the fans all gathering en masse if Liverpool won the league. All the Liverpool supporters clubs were saying 'we are not stupid, we know how to behave'.
1-0 to Joe. I know they hate it when he is right. smile

The amount of rubbish left after those (undistanced) celebrations is disgusting. Call themselves fans? Hah. No respect for their city or their club, or indeed their own health in the circumstances, to behave like that.

A simple answer to a lot of this is to ban all sales of alcohol for one week and make it clear that if it happens again then another ban will happen. Why should society have to suffer and pay for large numbers of people getting off their heads?

The videos of the police and others getting pelted with bricks, glasses and bottles at close range when providing medical assistance were absolutely appalling.

Drugs (legal and otherwise) were also a contributing factor for the enormous amount of violence in Liverpool.

Behaviour on Wirral over the last few days hasn't been much better either. New Brighton now has a Section 34 dispersal order in place as does much of Liverpool

"A 19-year-old man from Scarisbrick, Lancashire, has been arrested on suspicion of arson after the fire at the Liver Building, thought to have been started by a firework. The blaze caused at least £10,000 worth of damage, police said."

I agree with diggingdeeper. Police should've sealed off Pier Head and the whole waterfront and seized all alcohol. The idiot peasants should've been made to clear up their own mess.

It is the scourge of social media the reason the pier head was swamped so fast. The numbers very quickly escalated and the police were unable to deal with it.
As for the New Brighton dispersal notice, it ends tonight at 8pm. No doubt the crowds will slowly start occupying the dips again tomorrow.

Anyone setting fireworks off in a public places needs to be fined or locked up or both, as for the litter i believe that was left behind, send the clean up bill to Liverpool Football Club, why should the taxpayers have to foot the bill, as for crowds gathering get the water cannons out!

I think the use of water cannons is banned in England, Bumbling Boris bought three for £300,000 without bothering to check whether they were legal and ended up selling them for scrap, what a man!

Yep, typical apologists. They're now playing the "he's from Scarisbrick not Liverpool so not a true local" card.

They're even sharing a photo online of a guy in an Everton top who looked a little like him.

It was the same a few years ago when someone made monkey gestures and noises at a match. The defenders had the cheek to say a rival fan had got into the home section and was doing it.

Why is the Premier League trophy being presented after Liverpools game tonight? A late night presentation is not a good idea. People will already be well oiled and another mass gathering is bound to happen.
They should have presented it after the last game of the season, away at Newcastle which is an afternoon kick-off.

The protocol is that the trophy is presented when possible at the winner's last home game . It is inevitable that hordes will congregate again and perhaps you are right that the Newcastle game would have caused less havoc but that suggests that the premier league authorities have common sense.
