Radio Merseysides Billy Butler not had his contract renewed and hes not too happy about it.His last show Friday 28th Dec. Have noticed over the last couple of years a slight decline in him (he is 77) but he was IMO still good enough for Radio . Certainly better than one of the guys they have on there in the daytime. . Was on his show quite a few years ago when he was interviewing me about 911 as I had something to do with 911forum.org.uk and the intended speaker couldnt make it from Bristol. He was doing a series on conspiracy theories..
One voice I will miss from the radio
I think it's disgusting , after 47 years of really good service and entertainment he's effectively sacked!! He hasn't been on that much a couple if days for a couple of hours but I'd much rather listen to him than some if the waffle the younger ones give out. Think they should have left it for him to decide when enough is enough ,. most prob some new young boss come onto the scene wanting to make sweeping changes. He's a legend is Billy ,must be hard for him this..
Jenny Summers, then Paul Salt, followed by Sport (football) talk - ugh.
Crap.
Sorry but if you kept all us old farts in work there would be no room for new talent. Enjoy you retirement Mr Butler !
There's an old saying
he's a good act, but been on too long
I would say they have let him go more than sacked ,, he is 77 years old...... time to retire...As dilly says new talent out there .
Some of the things he does are ancient, especially segments like the do you remember the ... and various other things, but he’s still entertaining.

To be fair, can see why the The Wiki Regulars are up in arms, based on your description.|:)
It's hardly a very challenging job is it! There must be thousands who are as good or better than him.
I hardly ever listen to local radio and prefer Radio 4 with the odd Radio 3 programme.
Why? Only a fool would want such a pointless and boring job.
No doubt it could be a door opening job if someone wanted it to be . Not everyone would see it as a boring job either . If you're not the academic type , you like music, having a laugh and meeting people , and get paid well, you might see it as the perfect job.
I take your point. It might well suit some people, but Littlebears' s assumption that I am automatically one of them is mistaken.
Billy hinted today that he would like to do two hours maybe on a Sunday rerunning the old Hold your Plums shows, if another station took him up on it.
I think that's a great idea , they were hilarious. We could do with a good laugh amongst all the doom and gloom. I'd definitely be a listener and hope someone does it. Think it would be very popular with a great many people, obviously not all ....
