From tonight's Liverpool Echo
Trams are planned for Merseyside

The area in question is Wirral Waters and it is planned (by Peel) to use some of the heritage tramway and go over the Four Bridges.
Several plans are said to have been submitted to the Council already.
To be discussed by full Council on Monday October 15th.

"The notice is set to be discussed by full council on October 15, and asks the authority to consider recent events including December's Paris Summit on climate change and the Zero Emission Vehicle Summit in Birmingham that took place last month. At that conference, world leaders signed a declaration setting out the aim of "building a smart infrastructure network, planning for the cities of the future today, embedding zero emission infrastructure into the fabric of our urban and rural communities, and enabling provision where consumers need it".

Somehow, it doesn't seem so smart to me. What I think might have been smart would have been to look at the bigger picture, and timescale, given recent investment on the new bridge and cycle lanes.

Why is it called 'The Four Bridges' when there isn't!

Why do I get the impression that its just some scam to claim free money for promising to build it.

There were four bridges before some of the docks were filled in.

Ohhh! I see. Could never work out why the Duke St Bridge is called the Duke Street Bridge but the other one that isn't there any more but looked the same was called 'The Four Bridges'. Thanks Gibbo x

Like the Yanks in London always take pics of Tower Bridge which they think is London Bridge and when you show them London Bridge they get ever so disappointed and go back to Tower Bridge and take pics and tell the folks back home it is called 'London Bridge'.

It's because the real London Bridge is boring and this is possibly its only redeeming factor.

Not sure if you've seen it, but this is a brilliant website showing side by side maps of then and now:

Wow! How good is that?! Thanks Gibbo x Never seen this and don't know a lot about the area being from the south. A guy in the Tower pub told there there used to be trains going over the bridges and I am like no way that is madness because I thought he meant like the Liverpool - London express!!!!

Birkenhead was "the City of the Future". No docks down there to serve by tram now, new pavements already in place by the flour mills, what for I cannot guess. The planners haven't a clue how this town works is what it looks like to me. No buses down to Woodside and they wonder why the ferries aren't used. I don't count the couple that go down there now. Hamilton Square dead, the whole area. Grange Rd dying on it's feet. Derelict sites all over the place with building such as the old Dockers Club falling down. The market being run down is another bugbear. I love the town and it's just a shame to see it going downhill because of the neglect by council to get a grip and engage with the public. That's my view and I can't see it changing any time soon, it's sad.

Totally agree Bandy, Birkenhead & Wallasey have been hamstrung by Liverpool since the theft of our docks in 1855, the ultimate insult were the docks being sold/given to Peel Holdings in 2005.

Now we have been annexed by the Liverpool City Region we are even more left to rely on any crumbs thrown our way.

One thing that I believe accelerated our downfall was the first tall ships event when Birkenhead docks became essential for the event as Liverpool docks were inadequate. The outcome of this was an enormous expenditure on Liverpool docks and the gradual rundown of Birkenhead's.

We are left hugely at the mercy of Liverpool and Peel Holdings neither of which see us as any sort of priority.

Peel just use us as a portfolio builder, the more shoit they have on their portfolio the bigger their plus financial balance on the books. They've got stuff all over the place that they're doing nothing with. Would love to know what this new pavement down the mills is all about though, go past there quite often and never see anyone walking along there. Maybe I just go by at the wrong times.

As a motocyclist i don't want any trams thank you, The road are bad enough with out more dangers adding to them. They resurfaced part of the road outside Bidston tip a few months back, still need to do the part from the round-about and the other end with the old rail lines cutting across the road.
There roads with street lights out, not for a day or two but years, St Hilary's and the small round-about? The Clown Round about on the prom road, some one is going to plough into that one day [ night!]
Anyone been down Brighton street/ Seaban road since they started laying the pipes, think they are Gas forgotten how long they have been working their way along the road four or five months, the road was in a state to start with, the pipes laid the holes filled in, the Council comes out with its white marker paint, or yellow lines then sends the bill off to the Gas company, yet theres still pot holes in that road that are crying out to be repaired!!
Sorry but the whole lot of them in the council wants lining up against a wall and..... usless the lot of them
