Its hardly used, to be fair, however for that once in a blue moon time it's handy for the train when you get off.
The council planning killed that whole area. To think of the investment in that area. The submarine and tramway.
The council will keep that landing. I think, and put a bus on for the other.
I have not signed because I don't think the Seacombe terminal should close either - if it comes to choosing one or the other.
Seacombe has a free car-park that is at least 75% full each week-day. This suggests to me that ferry commuters use the service.
It is also the terminal that day-trippers will dis-embark from if travelling from Liverpool to this side, in order to enjoy our Promenade.
I know that my Liverpool friends use the Ferry to get to Seacombe. Walk Seacombe- New Brighton and then go home by train from New Brighton.
However, Woodside or Birkenhead has far better travel links for those from West Wirral, for example, who fancy a jaunt over to Liverpool on the ferry. Simply, a 10 minute walk from the bus station or even quicker if travelling by train to Hamilton Square.
The walking distance between Ferry Terminals is about 20 minutes (for able-bodied persons) but the route is rather boring and un-attractive. Buses between the two are every half hour.
Living in Seacombe, I tend to get the bus from home to Hamilton Square train station and then hop on a train over to Liverpool, for quickness and convienience only using the ferry for the return journey.

Woodside has been run down for the last 12 years. Probably they had plans in the offing back then. The reason Woodside does not have a commuter service any longer, is because it was stopped !
All energies and money have been direct to Liverpool. Trains from Chester and North wales would bring people to Woodside. The Tourist Information Centre brought people to Woodside.. footfall 75,000 a year ! Events brought people to Woodside such as Classic Cars, Morris Dancers, Christmas Trams, Tea Dances , Europe Days, River Festival, Local History Fairs, and a dozen more besides, annually . Free parking. Every one of those put people on the Woodside Ferries. Seacombe never even made an effort, apart from a tacky shop and a kids play area followed by Space Port, which was massively overpriced.
Anyway, whatever happens, let us not forget, should Seacombe ever need any backing for closure of service etc. we probably won't be supporting them any longer. Why should we, when the money can be spent elsewhere instead ?

What killed the ferry at woodside was stopping the commuter run am and pm.
What with the trains being off in jan the ferry from woodside would be beneficial.
What killed Woodside and the town off was the building of the bus station at Conway Street and the reconfiguration of the bus routes so that instead of being a transport hub the ferry and surrounding area became an outpost and left to rot because people couldn't easily get down there anymore. After being away for a long period of time I got the shock of my life when I came back and saw how the transport hierarchy and councillors had wrecked the town. And for what?
I think that building the bus station at the market and making it the terminus for the majority of bus routes was to the detriment of Woodside.
You used to be able to get to and from the ferry and home from wherever you lived by most buses on a route near you and no train station handy.
As far as I know Seacombe ferry is only on 2 bus routes and not sure if they go near to the town hall on the seafront
From Birkenhead only the 411 and 423 go along Brighton Street. When you even consider that Wallasey Town Hall is supposed to be the admin centre for the area then it is even more lamentable that it's not got a comprehensive bus service. Our masters know not what they are doing, they are jobsworths who haven't got a grip of their brief that's for sure.
The truth is; every snippet of Woodside being run down, is due to the Woodside Masterplan of 2005.
The problem is; how long do we have to wait ? Nothing moves and everything is stagnant.

We knew Peel was going to take thirty years or more for regeneration, they didn't give a breakdown of how much time negotiations would take. ! In the meantime ,all things close down. Peel will no doubt buy the Ferry Terminal. Another little acquisition, if they are allowed.

You must have posted as I composed my post.
If they'd have kept the bus routes there, they could have developed the land by the Swinging Arms as a car park for those with cars who wished to use the ferry.
A pathway on the seafront from said car park to ferry would have been only a minute or two to walk to the ferry
I remember, probably about eight years ago when I started visiting the area again, ending up at the bus station and when I enquired how to get to Woodside, being directed to a bus stop in Hemingford St. I was shocked to see the state of Woodside then, and it's no better now. How anyone can be expected to use the ferry without a decent bus service, and a small car park (where they even charge for disabled users) and no direct return service, I don't know. It's clearly a deliberate plan.

I am really surprised our waterfront has not had any investment (what happened to the £4 billion peel holdings plan?)
Looking at Liverpool waterfront you would think something would have been done over here by now
I believe removing the ferry would mean less chance of any investment
In the late 50s early 60s, I used to get on a bus from the Woodchurch Estate, buy a workmans bus and boat return ticket and travel to Woodside get the ferry over to Liverpool and then the bus to Edge Lane , then return later that day, all for the princely sum of one shilling and two pence (equivalent to 6 pence today). Happy Days, and Yes I have signed the petition.
The Booking Hall is a listed building, not sure about all of it. Being positioned where it is, it's not clear what could be done other than a ferry terminal. I reckon Peel will take it along with much more and run cruises in competition to Mersey Ferries. That was rumoured years ago, and maybe with good foundation.

I suppose it could always go up in flames, like the Woodside Hotel.
They do wedding receptions in the Woodside home restaurant and you can go on the ferries as part of the experience. I know someone who has just recently done that , said it was great.
My wedding reception was at The Woodside Hotel. nearby. Gone now.

The last time I used the ferry at a weekend I found I couldn't get a simple £2 ticket across, I had to get one that included entry to the U Boat story, whether I wanted to go or not.

I'm not sure you can do that. When I got on a few months ago at Seacombe, it went to Woodside then upstream to Lairds and then over to Liverpool.
On the return trip from Liverpool it went downstream almost parallel to New Brighton, then turned back to Seacombe, then onto Woodside.
The only direct service is during commuter hours Monday to Friday.
Yes, that's exactly what it did when I used it, several times, from Woodside. You can definitely do it (or could when I used it last year). The only requirement is that you have to get off at Liverpool and get a new ticket.
