A police press officer has just got back to us with this: “Merseyside Police can confirm that a number of homes have been evacuated in Park Road East and Patterson Street, Birkenhead as a precautiion this evening following the discovery of a suspected explosive device.
“The device was discovered by the landlord of a recently-vacated property that he had gone to check on at around 5.30pm.
