Wirral is now “twinned” with one of the gambling capitals of the world - Reno in Nevada.

Council bosses hope the tie-up will be a boost to the borough’s economy - bringing in jobs and investment from the other side of the pond.

But what, if anything, does Wirral have with the American city, once known as the divorce capital of the world.

but what have they got in common? Source Click Me

I really don't see the point of that. Where's the civic pride in being twinned with Reno? Overlit gambling capital of the desert, versus maritime peninsula. Nah... I mean, it's not long since new Brighton's flashy new casino closed!

Reno's a ghastly place; stayed there for a night on a West Coast trip 20+ years ago.

We are twinned or sistered with Gennevilliers(France), Lorient(France), Latina(Italy), Midland-Texas(United States), Reno(United States) and Taicang-Jiangsu(China), maybe Jiang Yin(China) as well.

How much has this cost and what benefits have they brought?

Most of them don't even appear on Wirral Council's website search!

Nice jolly for some councillors.

Ironic we hear about this nonsense just as a gambling facility - Grosvenor Casino - has closed down in New Brighton.
