It appears that common sense and public will has won for once.
Council u-turn.

So pleased with the decision. Often on a nice day if I'm off work, I'll take the short trip to NB just to see the water and maybe do a bit of shopping. This would have stopped for me if paying to park had come in

I'm pleased too,I take the dog down there although I go in the morrisons car park or by the dips if it's busy but if the council got there way they would have parking meters all over the place & morrisons would have a time limit or pay but free if you buy stuff from there

It would probably be better to pay people to go there! It's hardly a thriving holiday resort these days.

take it you've not been down there lately?its certainly thriving alot more than it was.

My impression of it is of a vast open treeless space with any view of the sea obscured by a concrete wall!

I'm glad it's doing a bit better than it was, I don't wish it any harm. I just don't find it a place I want to visit.

Have you not noticed the abundance of bars and restaurants. The excellent cinema and theatre. One of the best family golf venues in the country or the wonderful children's' play centre. Fort Perch Rock, the lighthouse, the marine lake and Vale Park. The tennis courts, bowling greens and boating lake, the Funfair, the bowling alley and lovely clean beach.

Maybe next time you go you could open your eyes.

Got to disagree with you there jdemo. When I was growing up New Brighton was fantastic. It had the big open fair , the pier which always had something going on. The front was full of coaches and cars which had come from many places.absolutley thronged with crowds of people having a really good time. I know that was many years ago but yes it was a thriving holiday resort.

I remember going to the baths in the summer had to get there early for a good spec.Freezing water, getting sunburnt then going back next day to do it all again.Saying that I like to go with the dog down there, try to go early on or evening as it does get busy in summer. It's surprising all the accents I hear mainly when they stop to stroke the dog but even the dips get busy on a good day.

Tend to agree strongly with cools and star, NB was fab in my childhood years..The outside Fair and the Rockpoint restuarant in the grounds were always busy ,my mother and her sister worked there for Mr Mc Intre, we used to get 'free rides' if not busy .The Palace as well ,my granddad worked for Mr Wilkie , there was always lots of coaches , the baths always 'busy ' ..
I think that,s why i am 'fascinated ' by accents , spent LOTS of time there , in fact i tend to go back alot , now it's busy again ...LOVE IT ....
I DONT THEY SHOULD BRING CHARGES IN AT ALL..

Maybe they are having a review on parking charges over Wirral as a whole.

Heswall car park was raised to £1.05 per hour. Needless to say, the car park became virtually empty. The charge has now been reduced to 70p per hour. Much appreciated, and more cars seem to be using it, although I don't visit so often to make that a completely accurate statement.

Ellesmere Port is only 50p for 2 hours & it was free after 3pm well it was last time I was there been that price for years & the car park is always busy when I have been, perhaps WBC should follow Ellesmere Port's example but they have Cheshire Oaks to compete with too.

Bromborough is 'still' free at the moment ...

I've no problem with that. I've got no time for people using Morrisons car park and not shopping there. And the same thing works for Asda in Birkenhed.
