V weatherman Fred Talbot has been found guilty of indecently assaulting two schoolboys when he was a teacher.

Talbot, 65, a regular on the floating weather map in Liverpool's Albert Dock for ITV's top-rating This Morning show, was said by the prosecution to be "a chancer" who used his "boundless energy" and "extrovert personality" to gain the affection and trust of his victims.

The jury at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court cleared him of assaulting three boys but found him guilty of assaults on two boys.

Talbot was said to have been "obsessed" with teenage boys throughout his teaching career and "could not help himself" around them when under the influence of drink.

Talbot was remanded in custody and to be sentenced on March 13.

That is very naughty of the police to show a client obeying his brief who was recommending him to state no comment - especially when the identity of the brief has been disguised.

I'm not a great believer that justice is being done by these extremely old cases - it is not possible to defend yourself and in most cases there is not a lot of hard evidence (if any) presented.

Most of the cases are based on the number of accusations for separate offences which goes against the principal of our justice system whereby every crime should be decided individually. Whilst multiple accusations can be used by the police as a possible incrimination it should not be used by the justice system unless it is for the same specific offence.

"those asterix are when you had sex with somebody." Would like to think the guy got convicted on a bit more than that!

The guy has vertually written a confession down in his "diary" which matches the statements of his victims, what more do you need ?

Breaking News: Fred the Weatherman faces jail term following child abuse conviction.
Consequently, I forecast a 95% chance of some deeply unpleasant showers.

Poor old Fred !

There is no end to this. Bill Wyman married Mandy Smith when she reached 18yrs.Dating since she was 13yrs and he was 47yrs. Because they eventually got married, does that make it ok ?
Wyman's son then married Mandy's mother. It's like a forerunner to Jeremy Kyle!

There is nothing illegal about "dating" a 13 year old.

The Bill Wyman case does highlight one anomaly, if he was prosecuted for statutory rape when Mandy was 13 he would have no mitigation but if he was retrospectively prosecuted after they were married his sentence would probably be lessened considerably.

More complicated are cases of statutory rape when people are married but because of different age-of-consents in different provinces it becomes an offence for the married couple to have sex.
