Wirral community grieves for young student who lost her life after being struck by a train

THE Wirral community has responded with an outpouring of grief, shock and sadness following the death of a 15-year-old girl who was struck by a train near Port Sunlight station yesterday.

Messages of condolence and support for the family have flooded social media, including the Globe's Facebook, after the tragedy was reported.

It is understood the youngster was a Year 11 pupil at Wirral Grammar School for Girls.

A message on the Wirral Governors Twitter feed was retweeted on the school's website this morning saying: "Wirral Governors @WirralGov@WirralGirls Our thoughts are with family, friends and your whole school community."

At around noon yesterday, police confirmed the victim of a the tragedy was a 15-year-old girl.

The teenager has not been named.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "Our officers were called to Port Sunlight railway station at around 10.30am on Monday, November 10, following reports of a person struck by a train.

“Colleagues from Merseyside Police and North West Ambulance Service also attended.

"A 15-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

was doing the school crossing for the grammar school yesterday--now know why some of the girls were upset. bad sad news

my wife just found out today this poor girl was one of her pupils in primary school. so many young people today seem to be struggling mentally. don't know what the answer is.
