THE number of Wirral children and young people given a statement assessing them as having special educational needs should be reduced, says a firm of consultants hired to cut council costs.

Their controversial recommendation came with another proposal - that more special needs youngsters should attend mainstream classes instead of going to specialised schools.

This is an appalling attack on services for children with disabilities in Wirral and will make life so much harder for many families. The "consultation" was driven through - this is the worst kind of cut - basing the needs of children on "demand management" and cost - no evidence of involvement of education specialists, parents, and crucially the children in this, Wirral SOS will be taking this forward and some of the parents met with Wirral Trades Council last night to discuss this with us. The consultancy company involved have their hands in outsourcing in many councils and were part of the disastrous Barnet Council schemes. Please read the article.

How much of our money is being wasted on yet another consultant, who at the end of the day is only going to report back to the council with exactly what they want to hear ?

Bob.

I am totally disgusted about this.My daughter has got a sen & it wasn't easy took 3 years in primary school, she got it last week of year 6 what a joke.It totally messed her transition to secondry up.She couldn't do induction day as nothing was in place,it was lucky she had been around the school quite a bit.Her junior school were brilliant & put extra strategies in place.I'm going on the opposite way she did mainstream school till last November but she wasn't coping in yr 8.She now goes to Clare Mount & she's come on so well. She also gets picked up & brought home using public transport is not an option as she couldn't cope on a long bus journey on her own. She's got autism & certain situations can stress her & that results in a meltdown these people need to walk a mile in our shoes & stop picking on the vulnerable.

Let me know if you want to 'link in' with other parents, who are starting a campaign.

The whole thing is disgusting.

all of these cuts coming from a parent (david cameron) who lost a disabled child!!the man is just showing he has no concern for any parents who have disabled children when he of all people should know how much these centres are needed!

I'll link in this is the council taking the p**s again & if the kids loose the transport that means the escorts will loose their jobs so it would be a knock on effect they can't get away with this.

Our aim is to bring community and trade unionists together to build a group prepared to take direct action and fight back!!!!!!

As the impact of Tory cuts in local Government, the privitisation of N.H.S, the bedroom tax and attacks on the benefits system begin to bite, we must step up our resistance and opposistion.

This Active Group is for individuals/ community groups and campaigners to come together and fight ALL of the attacks against us.

Concerned about Day Centre, library, leisure centre closures? Worried about Cuts to Respite Care? Our dog kennels being moved over to Liverpool?? These are just a few examples.

Come join us. Together we are strong, divided we may fall.

You can contact us in alternative ways:

Phone/ text- 07528 261 016

We are also on Facebook.

Doesn't this come under the Disability Equality Scheme, that was introduced by Wirral Borough Council in 2006 and to be reviewed approx. every three years?

Which Leisure Centres are closing?

"In January 2005, the Government's strategy unit published a far-reaching paper called Improving the Life Chances of
Disabled People. This report, largely welcomed by the TUC
and many others, laid out an ambitious objective of ending
discrimination against disabled people in Britain by the year 2025."

Education was part of it, and mentioned in a publication by the TUC.

I believe we had a labour Government at that time and was backed by the Unions, so I am not sure where the blame on the present Government comes into it. Labour Government, Labour Council, Union backed and now being continued by our Labour Council.
It really annoys me when people come out with such blatant comments of blame, directed at the Government of the day or anyone else , when truthfully they have not got the ability to check things out first. Just jump on the bandwagon and don't know anything of what has gone before.

I quite agree, Granny. There are some here who simply look for excuses to blame the current government. Governments here have, over many years, overspent without apparently bothering how it was all going to be paid for. A major contributory factor is old sods like me; we're increasing in number year on year owing to continued improvements in health care and the vast majority of us contribute little to the costs. Maybe what we need is a voluntary euthanasia bill. grin
