POLICE have released a photo of two young men they would like to speak to after a little girl was hit by a moped.

The incident happened on Thursday, July 11, on the Cinder Path near Townfield Lane, Bebington when the three-year-old victim was in collision with the moped.

The moped rider and passenger abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. The moped had been reported as stolen.

The tot, who was with a relative at the time, was left “shaken” and had a minor leg injury.

Police searched the area and house-to-house enquiries were carried out.

Aacting Sergeant Paul New, Roads Policing Department, said: "This case highlights the dangers of vehicles being ridden where they are not meant to be.

"Sometimes the riders of these bikes don't understand the consequences for local communities and the harm that the use of these bikes can cause.

"Thankfully this girl’s injuries weren’t more serious but this could have been very different. To drive a vehicle at speed along a path where pedestrians walk in the middle of the day is unbelievably reckless and dangerous.

"The manner that this vehicle was driven put the lives of all those who were in that area this afternoon in jeopardy. Anyone who takes to our roads and open spaces illegally poses a danger to pedestrians and other motorists.

"We are determined to bring these offenders to justice and would urge the males pictured or anyone else who recognize them to get in touch and give us information to assist our case."

Officers believe the two males pictured may be able to assist them with their enquiries and would urge them or anyone who recognises them to contact the police.
