A 16-year-old girl from Wirral tragically lost her life last night when she fell between the platform and a train at James Street station.

British Transport Police were alerted at 11.34pm to reports of the accident. A spokeswoman said at present it is unclear how the teenager came to fall.

Some 50 people were on the platform at the time and several of them are being treated for shock.

The investigating authorities are not naming the young victim at this point.

Anyone who may have relevant information is asked to telephone transport police on 0800 40 50 40.

So sad R.I.P

A vigil and laying of flowers and lanterns will be held this evening in memory of a young Wirral girl who tragically lost her life at James Street station late last night.

Friends will be gathering at West Kirby beach at 7pm.
Thoughts also with the train driver who would have witnessed it and the paramedics who had to deal with it. People often forget about them.
I wondered what had happened. I was there before and I saw the flowers and a couple of written tributes.
My thoughts and payers are with the family and friends of the young lady.

Such a tragedy, may she rest in peace x
People on the platform where treated for shock also.
The dr iver, The Guard and station staff would also be involved.

It is sad and traumatic for all involved

Update :-

TRIBUTES have been paid to Wirral teenager Georgia Varley who died after falling between a platform and a moving train at Liverpool James Street train station.

Georgia Varley, 16, from Wirral, was killed in the accident at James Street station at around 11.30pm on Saturday night.

Around 40 to 50 passengers were on the platform at the time, a number of whom were treated for shock.

The train was travelling from Liverpool to West Kirby and is understood to have been moving out of platform one when the incident happened.

A British Transport Police spokesman said the circumstances surrounding Georgia’s death were “unclear” and an investigation is continuing.

Floral tributes were left at the city centre station yesterday and Georgia’s friends taped messages and photos of her onto the station window, calling her a “superstar”.

More than 4,000 people have joined a group set up on Facebook to remember the popular teenager, a student at Hilbre High School in West Kirby who is also believed to have attended Upton Convent School.

More than 100 of the teenager’s friends gathered at West Kirby beach last night to share their memories of Georgia as news spread of her death.

One message at James Street, left by a friend called Gracey, said: “You brought so much joy into all of our lives.

“There was never a day when you didn’t make me laugh.

On Facebook, other friends said Georgia was always happy and “full of smiles”.

One, Clare, wrote: “So so sad. So beautiful, so young.”

Another said: “By far one of the most beautiful people ever given to us.

“She always made people smile and knew what to say.”

A spokesman for Merseyrail said a replacement bus service to Hamilton Square in Birkenhead was organised for passengers while the power to the train network was turned off.

Two trains were trapped on the network for 45 minutes.

The Wirral line service resumed at 12.10am. Train services on the northern line to Southport were temporarily disrupted for about 30 minutes.

ŠA British Transport Police spokesman said: “British Transport Police dealt with an incident at Liverpool James Street station after receiving reports of an incident at the station at 11.34pm on Saturday.

“A female has sadly died after she is believed to have fallen between a platform and a train at the station.

“Officers were at the station, alongside colleagues from Merseyside police and the ambulance service.

“At this stage the circumstances around how the female fell are unclear.

“Officers are speaking to a number of witnesses and Merseyrail staff as our investigations continue, after which a report will be submitted to the coroner.

“Officers are liaising with the victim's family and friends. Our thoughts are with them at this time.”

Heartbreaking.....my brother was actually with Georgia when it happened he said she just tripped with her shoes being so high, I feel so sorry for my brother and all the others that witnessed this frown
I was speaking to a number of Merseyrail staff today and heard the full details of what happened to the poor girl. A truly horrific accident. Thankfully, it was very quick. The poor people on the platform who witnessed it will probably be extremely traumatised
Merseyrail arranged for a priest to go to James Street Station with her Mother today.
Horrible, Horrible news. Only the same age as me and my friend's who were on the train just before this (Liverpool to Chester)

RIP Georgia xx

... And wiki complains of trolls. One mention on 4chan and those guys would make Pepper_Head look like an angel.
People just don't understand the behaviour if they haven't lurked there a while. But it WAS a /b/ raid (rules 1&2 I know) because I was lurking when the /i/nvasion popped up.

Forgive my ignorance but what's an a/b/raid [rules 1&2]?

/b/ is 4chan.org's random board. Home of the btards (and Anonymous). The group Anonymous started there because you don't need to register or sign in to post, everyone is anonymous. It's exceptionally well known and somewhat infamously feared by geeks/people that spend a lot of time online. Basically it's an imageboard, someone posts an image (which creates a thread) and then people can reply or comment on that thread. There's 15 pages of active threads and once a new thread replaces an old one the threads that reach the end of page 15 are deleted. Due to its anonymity there's no rules except don't post CP (child porn) and that gets broken quite often when other sites attack 4chan with floods. Most of the images posted are gore/porn/camwhore threads. Funnily enough there seems to be a huge female population, the sex distribution is prob in the region of 40/60 but you'd never know cause everyone is anonymous until they reveal otherwise. The majority of the meme's you've heard of (rick rolling and lolcats being the famous ones and a billion others) started on the /b/ board of 4chan.

So on this board live the assholes of the internet and generally people that are bored. When there's no rules (and most believe no chance of reprisal or consequence because they are anons) a lot of things get suggested, attacks on other sites being one of them. I should mention that when it comes to trolling btards are pretty much the experts. Attacking RIP sites is an obvious choice because it provokes a lot of responses and gets a lot of lulz. These attacks on other sites are called /i/nvasions because there used to be a /i/ board (for invasions) before it was removed. During those invasions rules 1 and 2 were that you don't talk about 4chan, parodied from the rules of fight club, because it'd only serve to drive new people to 4chan and btards like their exclusivity and non-mainstream feeling.

Fun trivia:

1) When raiding btards would blame e/b/aumsworld with the /'s. That way everyone who knew about the internet would know who it was but the raiders had stuck to the rules. When greeting each other it's hey /b/ro. Kind of like a gang tag I guess.

2) Rules of the internet are here: knowyourmeme.com/memes/rules-of-the-internet the most famous ones being 1&2 for btards and rule 34/35 which is widely known across the intertubes (if it exists there is porn of it, if there isn't porn of it you have to create it).

That's my history lesson for the day laugh

All very geeky, but we all have our strange hobbies!

4chan is an American site, it would have been the Americans continuing the trolling through the night.
Yep, you could tell they were yanks.
it was proper sick the pics and stuff they were putting up
They wouldn't have had any need to disguise who they were, facebook doesn't police rip groups other than banning troll accounts. Plus fb allows connections via proxy so people are completely anonymous on there if they want to be and most trolls know this. The one or two that don't (like that dude that got jail time) are usually first time users that don't know much about anything.
Thanks Ex0. Interesting summary there. I hadn't heard of 4chan before. Some rather sad inadequates out there.
Trolling threads just went up again on 4chan. Someone she went to school with must have disliked her or something.

(bear in mind that 4chan has rotational threads, the link will die soon when more active threads replace it)
its hit all the main papers about the trolls

Win for 4chan.

Mission, accomplished.

its proper sick in the head mate, can not believe people would do something so horrible. just feel so sorry the family, if they have to see any of it im hoping they have been warned not to go on, which is wrong they should be viewing wishes from people to try and provide a bit of comfort.
Tony, the above post is also a win for 4chan.

Forget it, move on.

Don't try and understand it.
Ah yes, trolling. I allegedly used to enjoy a bit of that way back in ye olde days of usenet. I was a meower and flonker. However we had a strict policy not to troll the vulnerable back then.

Lol, I visited once, it's grim, but FACT, the internet would be a less interesting place without it.

Was the girl killed instantly? It must've been a nightmare to see that, poor girl.

Allegedly instantly.
It was instantly. There have been 3 slightly different stories I've heard from Merseyrail staff but each would have been instant. This at least may be a tiny bit of comfort for the family in that she didn't suffer. No much comfort I grant you.
I would have guessed otherwise, trains aren't exactly moving fast when they are leaving the station and it's not like she fell in front of it.

Every report I've heard including that of eyewitnesses and a train driver have said instantly.

The whole platform is well covered by CCTV so the British Transport Police Investigation will come up with the definitive conclusion.

Hopefully, this event will make people realise just how dangerous trains are. My dad has said kids muck around every friday and saturday evening at James Street. Pretending to jump or push a friend in front of a train or standing on the footplate daring the Guard to shut the door.

A while ago, a pissed up lad pretended to push his friend in front of the train as it pulled in. The Driver was so shook up, he got out of his cab and smacked the lad in the face. He then said the train is out of service and called BTP to arrest the lad.

Combined with the lad at Green Lane who got electrocuted while mucking about on the line, these incidents should become rarer...but I wont hold my breath.

Well given the circumstances (a young girl) they aren't going to say anything other than that, are they? I'm not saying that's not what happened but she would have been lucky to die instantly.

You ever see the movie Saving Private Ryan? Every soldier that died Tom Hanks wrote home and told their families that he died with honour and was killed instantly by a sniper headshot.
The Department of Transport have taken the CCTV of all the stations from West Kirby through to Liverpool Central to see what led up to incident at James Street on saturday night.

Purely speculation, but it was said that the victim was leaning against the train as it pulled out of the station, I believe it is part of the guards responsibilities to make sure that everyone is standing clear of the train before it leaves the station

In my opinion that's mucking around. I'm not saying he was doing anything malicious there but he shouldn't have been on the railway line. It's a bloody dangerous place. That incident should be a lesson to all other children. Don't go anywhere near a railway line! The penalties are a very harsh.

Why would people have seen the CCTV evidence?
Well it's not going to be on Youtube or anything like that. But it has been seen by a number of different people - Merseyside Police, Merseyrail, Carlisle Security employees, Merseytravel, B.T.P., Dept. of Transport among others. Possibly Health & Safety Exucutve too.
My sister was an eye witness. Mercifully, it was instant.

I feel sorry for your sister [and everyone else on the platform] having to witness it. It's probably something you never forget.

I have to admire Paramedics and Firefighters who have to deal with such situations all the time.
From a emergency worker who was one of the 1st at the scene, it would definatley have been instant.

As said above it could be a guard, or a cctv worker who has shown the footage around or a million other reasons.

A Merseyrail employee has been interviewed by police over the death of a teenage girl at a Merseyside station.

Georgia Varley, 16, was killed when she fell between a train and the platform at James Street station on 22 October.

The teenager from Wallasey had been celebrating at an 18th birthday party with friends before the incident.

British Transport Police interviewed a 44-year-old man under caution and released him on bail until 11 January. Merseyrail said it had suspended him.

A Merseyrail spokesman said: "Merseyrail and its staff will continue to co-operate fully with British Transport Police to ensure that the full facts are established as soon as possible so that Georgia's family and friends can find answers to exactly what happened and help them to come to terms with their loss.

"We extend our deepest sympathy to Georgia's family and friends at this difficult time."

He said that the employee had been suspended on full pay.
