CAMMELL Laird shipyard has won a major £5m contract to support construction and maintenance of a new windfarm, it was announced today.

RWE npower renewables (RWE NRL) selected the famous Birkenhead shipyard to support its £2bn Irish Sea flagship Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm.

This is one of the largest wind farms under construction in Europe.

It will also give Cammell Laird a crucial springboard to be part of the future third round of highly-lucrative Irish Sea windfarms.

Meantime the 25-year contract could double Cammell Laird’s 600-person workforce over the next decade.

that's good for local labour but i bet they still won't up the rate
