Teenage cyclist ‘critical’ after being hit by car in Birkenhead
A TEENAGE cyclist was in a critical condition today, after he was hit by a car on a busy Merseyside road.
Police were called to Tower Wharf, in Birkenhead, at 7.20pm yesterday evening after reports of a collision between a bike and a blue Fiat Punto.
The 13-year-old cyclist suffered a fractured skull and was taken to Alder Hey hospital for treatment.
Police last night described his condition as critical.
The driver of the Punto was unhurt and stopped at the scene.
The 36-year-old man is helping police with their inquiries.
Tower Wharf was closed to traffic for about four hours last night while officers examined the scene of the collision.
Merseyside police today appealed for witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to contact the Road Collision Investigation Team on 0151-777 5771.
