i was riding the 18 back from Upton when i went past the heights and noticed one of them had all the glass windows removed and fencing around.
seems like they're finally demolishing all 3 of them (not sure about the lone one near Cherry Tree Road) from the top down.
(no explosives sadly)

ooo... kablamo!
Surprised the metal thiefs aren't in there
are you going down then Ste?...
thats millhey heights well was in the good old days, i grew up there, and was allowed up there to the 13th floor last week to see our flat we grew up in as children, while they were a nice community, i took some pics if anyone is interested
the demolition guys said this block is being taken apart as its too close to the houses, but the other two are being blown up when they are empty,
Yes, pics always nice to see.
will upload them later, they are mostly our flat which is demolished inside they have taken all the interor walls down and there are a few views out of the windows, we saw a peice of our wallpaper from 35 years ago, very odd feeling,
are you going down then Ste?...
The cheek Philip!
cant put pics up sorry nowt happening when i try will try again later
Any times and dates of the other two being blown up ,I reckon Bidston Hill looking over Fender Valley would be a good vantage point.
demolition guys said in the summer,
High rise flats down Birkenhead are getting soft stripped over the next few weeks, then covered in scaffolding over the next 7 weeks, then demolition.
two bedrooms knocked into one
this was the lounge looking out towards moreton cross

another of stavordale, sorry they arent great but we only had about 10mins up there, they were taken from the 13th floor, we lived there from when i was 3yrs to 18,
Was that your living room/bedroom you took the photos of? Must be a bit sad.
yeah the left side was my bedroom and the right my brothers, i think because it was so wrecked it didnt make me sad, if it had all been intact and there wasnt a demolition guy there making sure we didnt stand on anything then maybe i would have got sad, but we werent there long enough, I was a little sad looking at the pictures later, we found a smal peice of our old wallpaper it was on the walll behind where a kitchen unit was, that was weird,
Thanks for sharing
Pics are great, brought back memories. Thanks.
Great pics, we'll have to record the other 2 being blown up.
great pics there, wonder when 7 waves radio mast is getting moved off them then.
great pics, see aldi coming on well. didnt know they were being brought down. i been in a house we used to live in years ago, ver weird
Any times and dates of the other two being blown up...
Hopefully not before I've moved out
I used to live very close to Sandbourne - nightmare it was, with all the antisocial behaviour. I'll bet my ex-neighbours won't be sorry to see the back of it.
I'm guessing Sandbourne is being demolished bit by bit,due to its proximity to other properties, whereas Melrose & Thornridge can get blown-up, as there are open fields behind?

yes thats what the demo guys said,
I'd be very interested to know the 'blow up' date. As someone suggested-biddy hill would be a great 'spec

Haha. And the rest...
Those are amazing photos from the 13th floor, by the way. Keep them, they are part of history now.
so where did all the smack'eds get moved too? Not been passed that way in years.
Wallasey
Have the flats already been blown up?
my first ever flat was in sandbourne for 5 years in the early 90s and can honestly say it was an experiance and a half,, but looking back on it now i think it was too many people living too close together,, the sounds of people running up and down them halls at night and them sodden lifts opening and closing,, got stuck in them lifts about 3 times lol
I was shot outside Sandbourne many moons ago !! I'd been visiting someone who lived there and was in the car park outside and someone shot at me from one of the other flats. Hit me on the left side of my head and earnt me a few days in arrowe park. Needless to say I didn't visit that particular friend again

HaHa yer me too. I was only 16/17 at the time and I remember the day I came out of hospital I got in the car and 'my story' was on Radio city news and walking thru moreton a few days later and there was an Echo sign outside a newsagents with the headline 'GIRL SHOT AT WIRRAL BUS STOP' Was my claim to fame for years that

The other flats wont be blown up due to their being too close to main sewage and water mains, got enough trouble up the road with b***** water in gas!!! Tenders are still up for grabs, but its my bet the same firm will do the others. When the utiliites are all hanging around that's when they will all be ready for the big demolition. Its gonna be mighty windy walking up Stavordale when ther're gone as the gap at present between the two seems to funnel the wind coming down the M53 and across the fields!!
Back in the 1980s we used to call The Heights "Broadcasting House". At one stage there were three AM pirate radio stations located there. Quite horrendous getting the equipment in there though as the blocks were also rampant with smack dealers and their low-life customers. Jegsy Dodd even did a song about it called "Welcome to Hillview Heights"
