Witness appeal after elderly Wirral woman's home is burgled

POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a burglary at the home of a 61-year-old woman in Birkenhead.

An unknown number of offenders smashed a ground floor window of the house in Connaught Way between 9pm and 11pm on January 27.

They stole jewellery, including several family heirlooms, and two televisions before leaving the scene on foot.

The victim, who lives with her 17-year-old granddaughter, has been left devastated by the loss of her possessions.

Detectives are appealing for anyone with information or who witnessed anything suspicious in the area to come forward.

They particularly want to hear from anyone who saw a young man in a white hooded top in the area at the time to get in touch.

Detective Constable Chris O'Connor from Wirral CID, said: "Burglary is a very upsetting experience for victims and valuable possession which hold sentimental value and cannot be replaced have been stolen.

"Tackling burglary continues to be a priority for the police and such crimes will not be tolerated by us.

"However, our investigations can be greatly aided by information from the public and I would appeal to members of this close-knit community to help us bring these offenders to justice."

Call Wirral CID on 0151 777 2265 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
