A 31-year-old man has died from severe burns after a fire at a garage in Cheshire.

The emergency services were called to a row of garages in Denbigh Court, Ellesmere Port, on Thursday night.

They found the man in a critical condition. He was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital but died shortly afterwards.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is under way but it is not being treated as suspicious, police said.

Simon Gibbins, group manager at Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "Firefighters immediately set about assisting the paramedics in giving first aid to the injured man, using special burns packs on his injuries and providing him with oxygen therapy."

Fire crews spent several hours tackling the fire and evacuated surrounding buildings.
