Wirral milkman charged with rape and sex abuse of boys over 30

A MILKMAN appeared in court charged with rape and indecent assault of boys in Wirral over a 33-year period.

The accusations against David Sparks can be revealed after the 60-year-old faced magistrates yesterday.

The Wallasey milkman is charged with sex attacks on eight separate victims, at least seven of them allegedly assaulted under the age of 16.

One boy was allegedly systematically raped from the age of nine until he was 16, between 1979 and 1985.

Most of the alleged catalogue of abuse happened at Sparks’ home on Keswick Road in Wallasey.

Another address in Wallasey was the location for more of the alleged offences, namely 17 of the 59 counts.

The majority of the alleged attacks were against boys although some continued when the victims became 16 or over.

Other charges include gross indecency and indecent assault from as early as 1965 until 1998.

Sparks spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address at Birkenhead magistrates court.

The case was adjourned until a further hearing at Liverpool crown court at the start of August.

The milkman was given bail with a condition that he does not have children at his home and he reports to Wallasey police station three times a week.

The charges indicate that Sparks was 15 himself when the alleged abuse started to take place.

The case is understood to be one of the biggest that Merseyside Police’s Family Crime Unit in Wirral has ever dealt with.

It is unclear if Sparks is alleged to have committed the offences during his rounds as a milkman.

Mortons Dairies, which has a depot in Hoylake, said he never worked for the company according to their records.

But they said Sparks used to buy milk from them.
