Snooze and myself went out for a little cycle ride down the prom last night. Meols to New Brighton and back again.

On the way back, as we were going round the cove behind the golf club, the Police helicopter was circling the snand banks a few hundred yards out. As we got a bit closer to the lighthouse the helicopter was hovering at about 100 feet over the prom, as 2 coastgard 4x4s turned up with blue lights ablaze and got their bins out and started also looking out over the sand banks.

We hung round for a bit, but after 10 mins they dispersed.... No idea what was going on, and neither of us had our phones / cameras with us frown

Did you know helicopters are permitted to fly at least 500 feet unless it's a rescue operation. 100 feet is breaking the rules, even for the police! smile

CAA exemption ....

"Police air operator’s certificate

Any aircraft flying in accordance with the terms of a police air operator’s certificate shall be exempt from the 500 feet rule, the 1,000 feet rule and the prohibitions on flying over open air assemblies and on landing and taking off near open air assemblies."
