Wirral police warning after spate of motorbike thefts
Motorbike owners are being warned to make sure their machines are secure after a spate of thefts in Wirral.
Police in the Birkenhead and Tranmere neighbourhoods are reminding readers of precautions which can reduce chances of becoming the victim of a burglary or having a motorbike stolen.
At the beginning of July, officers noticed a small increase in the number of small motorbikes being stolen, ranging from small mopeds up to 125cc bikes.
The majority of the motorbikes stolen were not secure.
If you are a motorbike owner you can prevent yourself from becoming a victim of theft by securing your bike by using an anti-theft device or locking the vehicle inside a locked shed or garage.
Neighbourhood Inspector Mick Blease said: "It is important for residents to take these simple steps in order to prevent them from becoming the victim of a crime.
"Locking doors and windows is essential all year round but more so during the summer when it may be easy to forget and leave the house insecure.
"I urge residents to take a moment before they leave the house to check doors and windows. In addition to this motorbike owners are reminded to secure their vehicle by using one of the many anti-theft devices."
