Appeal for witnesses to hammer attack at Wirral railway station
BRITISH Transport Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted with a hammer at Rock Ferry railway station.
The incident happened at around 8pm on Sunday when two men were involved in an altercation on the platform.
During the incident one of them used a hammer to assault the other causing minor injuries to his head.
The injured man, a 36-year-old from Birkenhead, was taken to Arrowe Park hospital for treatment.
Detectives are now appealing to anyone who was on the Liverpool to Chester train on Sunday evening and who witnessed the two men prior to them arriving at Rock Ferry to come forward.
They also need help from the public in tracing the man who brandished the hammer.
He is described as white and in his early 30s. At the time he was dressed in a full fishing outfit and carrying fishing tackle and a rod.
He was last seen walking away from the station down Highfield Road.
