THOUSANDS of pounds worth of wedding, bridesmaid and prom dresses were taken by vicious car jackers in a terrifying heist.

The victim, a 55-year-old sales rep from Lancashire, was delivering more than 80 dresses to a Liverpool bridal shop when his car, a black Volvo S60R, was hit from behind by an Audi on Stanley Road, Bootle.

He got out to speak to the other driver and found himself confronted by three masked thugs.

The victim, who is too scared to be named, said: “I felt the shunt from behind and looked in my mirror and through the tinted glass I thought it was two Islamic women in burkas waving me to pull over to swap details.

“We were only going at about 25mph, and I just thought it was some idiot on a mobile or someone not paying attention.

“I saw the driver’s door open, got out of my car and was looking for damage when these thugs confronted me.

“I refused to give them the keys, so they attacked me and took them. While they were struggling to get my car started, I threw open the passenger door, grabbed my phone and punched this lad.

“But the others came behind me and kicked me back to the floor.

“Then both cars sped off.

“It was absolutely terrifying. I could have been killed. They were just vicious.”

In the boot of the victim’s car were dresses worth around £50,000 which he was delivering for London-based Stevie’s Gowns. He spent three days in hospital after the attack.

The robbers were white, around 5ft 11ins tall, slim and spoke with local accents. They wore black clothing and ski-masks.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident, which took place at around 10am on Wednesday, February 4.

They also want anyone who has been offered wedding and prom dresses in suspicious circumstances to contact them on 0151 777 4811 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

The boot on an S60R doesn't look big enough to hold over 80 wedding dresses!

Sad and nasty thing to go through though no

Sounds suspicious - there's not many people who would have a go at three lads who had just smashed into the back of your car with the intention of stealing it!
