CROWDS converged on Liverpool’s waterfront over the weekend to see one of the most famous ships in the world.

HMS Ark Royal renewed her bonds with the city as she berthed at Liverpool’s cruise liner terminal for a four-day visit.

Thousands of people boarded the vessel to get a taste of life on one of the Royal Navy’s greatest ships.

With a number of serving Liverpudlians, the Ark Royal has a great affinity with Alder Hey hospital and the ship’s company have collected money to hand over late Christmas gifts to the children.

Larger than her sister ships Invincible and Illustrious, Ark Royal is fitted with four Olympus gas turbine engines, propelling the ship in excess of 30 knots.

She can carry 682 sailors and 668 air crew and has room for another 600 troops.

I was on Her on Friday morning and it was amazing!! Highlight of the day has to be sitting in the Merlin Helicopter on the flight deck!! Got loads of pictures, put them all on my facebook raftl I'm such a geek but proud of it!!

I've just watched Her leave but camera decided to die on me - not a happy camper somad She looks beautiful at night.

As a side note - HMS Illustrious is returning to Liverpool again this year. There are also many things going on for the 100 years of Naval Aviation Celebrations this year. Details can be found at royalnavy.mod.uk/flynavy100
