A DRAMATIC rescue took place after fire services responded to reports that a woman was in the water at Birkenhead docks.

The 35-year-old was pulled on to a ledge from the icy pool at Tower Keys Industrial Estate, Birkenhead by two firefighters who jumped in wearing lifejackets.

She was then elevated to safety and placed in a fire-engine to keep warm until the ambulance arrived.

Two crews and Wallasey search and rescue team were dispatched to use high power lighting to see if there was anyone else in the dock.

The woman was taken to Arrowe Park Hospital suffering from the effects of hypothermia.

Pressure on families and loved ones lost missing or past away is intense at this time of year.
Incredible brave of the fire fiighters.

Who would want a call from the hospital before midnight !!

Sad news
That must have been sooooo cold for the firefighters. We were in Birkenhead Park yesterday and one of the lakes was well frozen over.

My respect to the firefighters for going in and thoughts to the woman concerned.
