A 72-year-old woman has died after her car was in collision with a petrol tanker on a road in Cheshire.

The crash happened just before 1200 BST on Saturday on the A5032, at the junction with Gordon Lane in Backford near Chester.

The 36-year-old driver of the HGV was not injured.

An ambulance was called but the driver of the yellow Peugeot 107 died as a result of her injuries. Any witnesses are asked to contact police.

Maria Blazavich, of Tarvin Road, Chester, was driving the car when it crashed on the A5032 in Backford, near its junction with Gordon Lane.

Police said the driver of the HGV was not injured in the crash, just before 1200 BST on Saturday.

Mrs Blazavich died as a result of her injuries. Anyone who witnessed the crash is being urged to contact police.
