My car can't go at present two miles without cutting out, very dangerous aswell as i only managed to drive home today and have left the car there ever since. The warning ligh that comes on says something about the emissions? Its so vague its annoying though. I AM taking it to a garage but I cant get it to one till new week now.

If anyone knows what i can do in the meantime, I will spend all weekend on it if it will help, then please let me know!?

I know no one has seent he car etc..but i know most of you are handy with this type of stuff!

What does the warning light look like? The emissions wont cut the car out mate but an engine warning light would - When the light comes on does it perform v badly? Some ECU's have somthing known as a 'limp home mode' where it will allow to drive home rather than not work

i dont know how to explain it but yeah if it cant be the emissions then it must be the engine. its obvioulsy not something I can do myself so i'll have to wait for the mechanics to have a look.

I would suggest you DO NOT DRIVE IT at all mate, more driving will damage the engine.
Below is a number I personally recomend, altho one of the sponser may be able to help. Its a call-out diagnoistic tester and will cost about £30 - xxxxxxxxxx

I bet you it's valve that puts some exhaust gas back through the engine, if it's made by Bosch, it might be this. Try disconnecting the battery for 1/2 hour, this will reset the ECU, and might sort it out, but I'd do as Dazza says and have it looked at.

They could advise you more too. happy

If it lets you drive 2 miles (ish) and them dies could be one of the engine temp sensors gone down. As soon as the engine starts to get warm it cant track the engine temp and has to shut off before anymore damage gets done.

Chances are the part at fault will be quite cheap, but with electrical problems / sensor problems, its finding whats wrong that is the hard part frown

Good luck....

yeah the general consensus from ppl at work (wannabe mechanics!) is that its simply my sprk plugs that have burned out. I turn the ignition on, it revs to 1.5 as usual then dies after 2-3 secs, pretty damn annoying. But I reckon I'll have sorted it out asap, the thing is though that I dont know what i did to start it off, I haven't had a crash, hardly driven for a week so its no one incident.

If it runs fine and then suddenly cuts out, it'll be the ECU sensing something is wrong and cutting it out.

On vauxhalls you can reset the ecu by disconnecting the bat for 30mins!! have you looked into tryin sumthin like that!

like what stationmiek said!

yeah I will do that but as its raining 24/7 around me, I'll leave it till the weekend. I have put ReDex in though so i'll see if that was the problem, I'll probably be pretty upset if that was all, surely dirty valves shouldnt cause me the trouble I'v had?

But I will try the battery trick and see what happens and let you all know.

Disconnect the ECU overnight to be sure. Refot and let it idle for a few mins while it recalibrates its settings (check all sensors are working etc).

It sounds to me like its a sensor not working
