Reason other than speed to get a turbo

The noize

There are lots of noises u get from a turbo on your car.

1.Is the noise of the compressor spinning and the pressurised are rushing thru ur intake. This is the nice "whooosh" noise u hear as they accelerate

2.Dump valve-"Pppppppppsssssssttt" As the driver steps off the throttle for a gearchange and the pressurised air is dumped out of the intake and into the atmosphere to prevent turbo damage

3.Screamer pipe-An awesome noise that comes from the Blow off valve but travels through a pipe and gives a more squeeling noise as the pressure dumps. A good example of this noise can be found on the 2F2F skyline that Brian o connor drives in the opening sequence to the film. As he is speeding thru the streets on the way to the race

4.Turbo chatter-Not the most turbo friendly noise as it poses severe danger to the internals but if your turbo is strong enough this noise is created by having no dump valve/BOV at all. As the driver lets off the throttle all that pressurised air has to go somewhere so it forces its way back out thru the turbo the wrong way creating a sweet chattering hiss.Heard this in a drifting video for advan yokohama with a 200SX that has no BOV and its just awesome everytime he lays off the throttle

5.ALS-Anti lag is a system that keeps the turbo spinning at full speed even when braking/changing gear. This is achieved by chucking loads of fuel into the chambers when off the throttle causing uber-violent explosions, thus causing enough exhaust gas to keep the turbo spinning. All this creates a hell of a lot of flames, pops and bangs. Most often used on rally cars. Long term damage is a big risk

6.Launch control-Computer controlled lower rev-limit such as 5000RPM used for launchin from the lights, as the engine bounces rapidly off the limiter it pops and bangs almost purring ready to shoot off into the distance

Just incase anyone ever wondered why these noises are caused

if you read posts instead of just posting after them you would be able to find out happy

Got confused with the screamer pipe one actually

What it does is it comes from the wastegate and via a pipe dumps the exhaust into the atmosphere as the car comes on heavy boost. It is a minor performance enhancement cause you dont have that exhaust going back into the exhaust system and creating turbulence. They are also very loud which i personally like but they are only loud when you come on heavy boost and the wastegate begins to open to stop the turbo overboosting. It can be fun cause it can scare people if you boost past them

As u are on the throttle it screams at high boost and when u lay off it chirps in a cool way
Need to get some videos links up

Atill cant find any info bout them on CW tho. Apart form stuy sayin hes gettin one.Cant wait to hear urs stuy

Are you sure the chirp isn't just a HKS SSQV?

I thik the chirp wud be a combination of the screamer pipe stopping screaming and the dump/BOV happening

Chirp raftl

Tyhe screamer pipe make more of a crackle and popping / banging as it opens and shuts. Rather than dumping the wastegate gasses down the exhaust, it dumps them to atmos - you do however need a turbo with no internal wastegate, and you will need a seperate external wastegate with a modded manifold top accept the wastegate.

Number 4 - the turbo chatter, when you lift off, the throttle butterfly shuts, however the turbo is still spinning and compressing and with out a bov to get rid, this forces its way back through the turbo at supersonic speeds causing the chatter.

I may remove my bov for the prom for some added effects wink

Turbo Chatter

It's not directly to do with the BOV, but with the sound of pressure bouncing off (a wooovving sound) a closed throttle (ie. the butterfly in the throttle body), it then goes back through the blades (the 'chopping' sound you hear), and maybe out of bov (if it's fitted) with a tssh.

(which, just reading yours, is what you said!! smack )

There's a metallic red Rover that is constantly in 2nd bombing it everywhere through Chester day and night trying to impress anyone and anything with his 'tsh-ing' sound. I personally don't like it at all, and would prefer a non atmospheric one. smile
