not to fussed meself but a tank of diesel will get you futher than a tank of petrol matey

Diesels last longer, are cheaper to run, have heaps of low-down torque, and don't rely on electricity - hence they won't conk out in heavy rain or after going through a big puddle like alot of petrol cars do. A diesel is summat you can put trust in.

penguin u got have got it in for every car but yours mate!lol

I think diesels are pretty good as they are reliable and much more economical, however i hate the noise they make
Posted By: Anonymous Re: diesels???!! - 27th Aug 2004 10:42pm
yeh its the noise that I hate!!!

I drove a renault megane DCI last month, and it moved! Having loadsa torque is great. I wouldnt mind a diesel at all laugh
(but then anythings faster than my car......)

i think they sound pants but i went out in a top of the range Golf TD an the power from that was shocking! i was so suprised, very good performance for a diesel, i'd have one considering the amount of miles you get for a full tank laugh

HI

used to hate diesels until i got my 106.

yeah its not fast but i cant object to 200 miles to £10 of fuel, nor can i object to putting 44K on a car in two years and suffering no major mechanical failures, or to the 127,500 miles its now covered on a 95 N plate. Oh, and the engine is running that clean that the Emissions Machine at the MOT station had to ask if the exhaust probe had fallen out!

It truly is a car you can put trust in. It starts, stops and does all you need a car to.

As for fun, the comedy bodyroll is something to behold laugh

The VW golf Turbo diesel is pretty much top of the league IMO, only one that could possibly better it is the pug engine.

The majority of VW petrol engines are severely under powered, but the Turbo Diesel engine is pretty much the best available, think they use the same/similar engine in the sporty Skodas now-a-days.

Pingu, give you a drive of mine tonight, see what you think.

Got a Mondeo TD as my runabout - 45-50 mpg round town and very reliable. Only drawback is its slow (even though I have wound the boost out a little wink ) and a bit noisy on tickover.

Went to rockingham over the weekend and back on a smidge over £20 of fuel - how many petrol cars would do that?

As mentioned above, the even newer TDs are quick too, especially the VW's smile I had one of the new 3.0 V6 TD Vectras last week - 180bhp, 0-60 in 8.3 and a top speed of 140mph (which it was rude no to test wink )

Bit "chuggy" at tickover, but open the trottle, and it made a nice V6 roar, and had one of the biggest turbos Ive seen on a diesel road car!!!!

I prefer TD's over petrols, better on the economical side for both insurance and petrol.

They also have less problems engine wise and the engine will take more battering lol.

But it is true, they are not fast in acceleration as comparable petrol cars.
