Budget?
Posted By: saz2004 Re: my first car - 11th Feb 2005 2:17pm
bout £2000 - £3000
Posted By: mikebroomy Re: my first car - 11th Feb 2005 2:22pm
Mmmm insurance thinking here i'd go for somethin around the 1.4 engine wise.

Is there any preferences too how old it would have to be cos you can get any car for that price but some would be really old.

My 1st thinkin for you is something like a 306.
Posted By: saz2004 Re: my first car - 11th Feb 2005 2:24pm
i dont want anything older than bout a P reg i think!
i dont really like 306's broom! i like em but cant c myself drivin one!!
Posted By: aceritz Re: my first car - 11th Feb 2005 2:28pm
nothing older than a p reg, yet no offence you are prob going to bang it into stuff and knacker it, why not buy a shed and run it into the ground

Where you get 3k from you always skint
Posted By: saz2004 Re: my first car - 11th Feb 2005 2:29pm
yeah i know im always skint chris! mum is guna buy my first car when i get a job and ive just gotta tax it and run it!!

Posted By: saz2004 Re: my first car - 11th Feb 2005 3:02pm
saxo VTR???
Posted By: AX_125 Re: my first car - 11th Feb 2005 3:04pm
Buy a pug 106/saxo/ax, keep it for a few years and save up for something with a bit more power to it.
Posted By: aceritz Re: my first car - 11th Feb 2005 6:35pm
or buy a bus pass
Posted By: Anonymous Re: my first car - 11th Feb 2005 6:58pm
buy a little 1.1, cheap on insurance and idea for a first car, there's plenty of 106's, saxo's etc for sale. they're nothing special but they'll do everything you'd need your first car to do smile
Posted By: Anonymous Re: my first car - 11th Feb 2005 8:32pm
No offence.

Need a job to buy a car smile

Start off with a 1.1 nova or fiesta of similar, maybe a ford ka, these are going for approx £1500 nowadays and think they are all newer than p reg. This will offer you cheep insurance too which is the first thing you need to consider. Build up your no claims for a few years then move on to something bigger and better.
It does take time and you can just jump into a rapid car straight away (look at me, im still paying £1300 insurance with 5 years no claims and im an old get)

Im sure people will give you the same insurance advice as i have.
Good luck car hunting lol smile

and as for insurance, ive got a 1.1, and everyone gave me a quote of approx. £1600, but I tried sainsuburys and it cut £700 off and my quote is £900 at sainsburys, so for cheap insurance, go to sainsburys, try an online quote and see

Or tesco, thats who im with. Will be swapping to Liverpool Victoria as soon as im 25 later this year though, it will near enough halve and ill be able to sort both cars out with them smile
Posted By: djrenegade Re: my first car - 11th Feb 2005 8:48pm
i tried tesco but they were still £700 more expensive for me

Posted By: saz2004 Re: my first car - 14th Feb 2005 4:08pm
yea im still thinkin of a seat arosa jimbo, just lookin round at the moment!
yea i know i need a job laura, if u read the topic it actually says it hun!
ideas at the mo r seat arosa, 106, saxo or a fiesta
Posted By: Anonymous Re: my first car - 14th Feb 2005 4:28pm
no dont get a 106 , i dont think you will *suit it , maybe a saxo hmmm.... but keep in mind with tesco insurance they have a young drivers excess which is expensive if you have a bump !

thats why there insurance is quite cheap. , im not sure what a seat arosa looks like but other than that i say a saxo ! definatley not a 106 though!! laugh

106quicksilver or ford ka wud be an ideal first car for ya hun.The escort 6( i know im bein biased) is a very very cheap car now-a-days and they come loaded with all todays mod-cons.ABS,power steerin, central lockin, air con,Some even have traction control.Keep us in the know with how u get on
Posted By: saz2004 Re: my first car - 14th Feb 2005 4:36pm
yea u r biased scoop! lol! onoly messin! yea i like the 106 quicksilver but its a 1.4 and the insurance wil b a bit high wont it?? think
Posted By: Anonymous Re: my first car - 14th Feb 2005 4:41pm
no not exactly saz , why dont you just go on tesco , (on the internet) an just get a quote , i dont think it will be expensive specially because of the "young drivers excess" , kats is 900 summit an hers is 1.2 so i doubt an extra .2 will be a big difference tease
Posted By: saz2004 Re: my first car - 14th Feb 2005 4:46pm
yea think am gonna go wiv tesco when i do get a car, isnt kat 18 tho?? wil b cheaper if she is but im only 17
Posted By: Anonymous Re: my first car - 14th Feb 2005 4:59pm
yeah shes 18 , not sure saz , only one way to find out though lol , you want to try and avoid goin as a named driver and your mum bein the main one if you get me , AS you wont get your no claims bonus which you want to do asap laugh
Posted By: AX_125 Re: my first car - 14th Feb 2005 5:01pm
I think it will be about £1500 on your own fully comp on a 106 quicksilver.

Buy a 1.0 ax/saxo/106 as your first car and build up your no claims, thats what i did and at 21, i could go out and get insured on a Group 20 Scooby for just under £1k
Posted By: saz2004 Re: my first car - 14th Feb 2005 5:02pm
yea i know, i prob wont get no claims tho coz i'll prob crash within my first yr! lol! im on mums at mo and payin an extra £600 for me on a 1.6

once i have found a car that i like, i will ring insurance compaines and find the best one!!

Posted By: AX_125 Re: my first car - 14th Feb 2005 5:53pm
Can't find the screenshot, only found the one from last year where i got quoted £2k on a escort cossie at 20 years old with 3 years NCB.

Unfortunatly they won't quote me online anymore for the scooby frown

Hiya

106 - and if you dont mind driving a diesel, then they are an excellent choice being economical and an extremely robust (in 1.5 litre form)as well as simple to work on. Insurance is also very reasonable in my experience on them too.

Failing that, the Ford Ka is also an excellent choice being reasonably economical, nippy and good fun to drive
