It all kicks off in less then an hour in Melborne Australia.

The qualifiing anyways and its a late night for me as i'm at the rolling road in the morning and i want to see the new format.

Saturday = Fastest Lap Light Fuel
Sunday = Race ready Qualifying

Times added together to give a grid position for the race which follows 3hrs later.

Key points : 1 Set of tyres for the whole race.
Engine to last 2 Races now.

Should be fun, well more exciting.

But like the drivers say, they can't run the cars on the edge no more for the fear of wrecking the tyres too early.

I watching Kimi and would really like him to win.
Who you watching and who do you think may take the title this year ?

Red Bull Racing star David Coulthard and McLaren's Juan Pablo Montoya have hit out against Formula 1's new qualifying format.

Coulthard's fantastic fourth position in the Australian Grand Prix last weekend can be put down largely to his good fortune in qualifying, which was disrupted by a rainstorm and caused a topsy-turvy grid.

But despite this, the British ace reckons that 'farcical' and 'not fair' are the best ways to describe the new system.

"It totally benefited us, but it's not really what we're here to see," he said. "It was kind of farcical."

"We shouldn't make it too much of a handicap sport. It's like getting Chelsea to drop a couple of men from a few matches just because they're winning too much. It's not fair."

Montoya agrees, suggesting that it's the sport's fans who suffer the most; "I think it's disappointing for the fans who pay their money - the big problem is that people don't understand what's going on."

The Mclaren driver also pointed out that the penalty for mistakes is so high now that the drivers aren't trying.

"You're trying to save the tyre, so it's not the most exciting thing," he said.

"You're just keeping it on the track."

Coulthard believes a return to the old 12-lap free-for-all hour long session is what is needed to bring the spice back into qualifying.

"This whole one lap thing spaced out over an hour is the problem," he said. "It should be one hour, four laps and you've got to do a lap in every 15 minutes, with all the cars out there.

"I went to a MotoGP last year and in the last five minutes you were on edge because it was great, everyone's out there jockeying for position.

"I don't think I even got excited going out to qualify."

Got to agree the free for all madness was a great time to watch qualifying.

Yeh it all happened in the last 5 mins but that's exactly what made you watch to the end.

The new system is Poo IMO.

And the 1 set of tyres in a race didnt increase the excitment either.

The winner even said his tyres were as good as the start at the end, and even on the last few laps got his fasted lap time.

Be preapred as F1 may have to change things again as they always do.

Decent Race, glad to see D C in a good position in a new team.

Roll on the next race.
