Ok folks have a good chuckle at my expense Parking Eye have kindly sent me a £70 or £40 early payment parking fine for parking 1hr and 49 minutes in the Aldi Penton car park. Thought it was a 2 hour stay. They say its 1hr 30 minutes max..... Will have to think hard how to get out of this one. They didnt see the 5 minutes driving round looking for a place and the 5 minutes in the cheque out at Aldi and Home and Bargain. I think a nice grovelling letter to Aldi. and B and M.

I too have been fined at this location , I am SURE that they do not have permission to use the reg photo thing , I think there is another thread on it , I am waiting for some-one ,who is planning to help me appeal , they are waiting on more info .

If you had a disabled person with you it helps especially if you include proof of disability.

Planning application has been applied for but it has not been passed yet.

I suggest a complaint to ALDI, pointing out you will be reluctant to shop there again might work. Particularly if you spent a lot there and kept your receipt. If the time limit was in the small print rather than being prominently displayed I think you might mention that too.

I doubt you'll get much shrift from Parking Eye.

Yes seen the "no planning permission" one on wikileaks. Not sure how true and how much i could rely on that or even how. The grovelling letter has been sent to Aldi (and i did mention the war!!). It worked last time i got stung in the Lakes with Morrisons but there were mitigating circumstances (the ticket machines were out of order). Bit of evidence gathering tomorrow with photos of the signage at Aldi..the eyesight not as good as it used to be. Read Martin Lewis page on it and the different approaches but he doesnt even mention writing to the landowner (Aldi).

Could try the argument £70 (£40) for 2 hour parking when all other pay car parks are only £2 but i note the comments about that having been tested in the courts. How much profit could Aldi lose in 20 minutes from one customer ?

It will be the genuine "unfair" mistake card i think..(as that is what it was).

What baffles me is how anybody can spend nearly 2 hours in a supermarket.

The Aldi Prenton one is abused a lot as people use the other shops, cafes and the like on Prenton shops. Get a breakfast, do shopping, visit launderette, take the kids to the playpark and it can easily mount up.

You dont...you spend half hour in Aldi, half hour in Home and Bargain next door and then you nip into Sainsburys to get cat food because your kitties wont eat Aldis, then you nip into subway for coffee and sandwich but on the way you pop into charity shops.. then you wait 5 minutes for your missus to come out of a shop( or something like that) and before you know it your 20 minutes over time...

Aldi have asked me to send proof of purchases which in this instance i paid cash and didnt keep the receipt (oh my nose is getting bigger). Fortunately i do regularly shop at Aldi albeit the one in heswall and can send them the last £750 worth of bank statements i spent there since xmas. (Wife did shop in Heswall Aldi same day as my ticket).

fingers crossed

Aldi cannot legally issue a fine. What they've sent you is in effect an invoice.

If you shopped at Aldi that day, I believe they will let you off if you contact them and email your receipt.
