I ran out of petrol ... on the motorway - 30th Apr 2005 11:29pm
I was travelling down the M53 between Clatterbridge and Prenton last night, when I get the ol' judders. I could smell a strange burning smell earlier on and thought the head-gasket had gone and waited for the plumes of smoke, but nothing. Then realised it must be the petrol, but my fuel pump beeps when it's just getting the fumes through.
And if I couldn't be any more in the middle of nowhere. I had to ascend the bank on the side of the road, which was covered in thin wispy trees that cut me to ribbons, then had to walk along a farm track for about a mile, then another mile through Storeton Woods, to the petrol station. And then back again, four miles in total!!
Those hard shoulders are scary, you don't realise how fast those cars are going, and it's damned loud as well!
