Further to my previous post ref clutch I want to tow wifes car to garage using a towing pole (cheap enough in screwfix)rather than a tow rope but the cheap tow poles only connect tow eye to tow eye and sods law the tow bar I had fitted on back of my car is bolted through the tow eye Any ideas to temporarily convert the tow ball to a tow eye? Thinking of a strong U bracket maybe. cheers
Some tow poles just about clip round the narrow part below the tow ball but I guess you've looked at that.
Can't you pull the bolt out the tow eye hole and put the tow eye back in? Assuming its a detachable screw-in tow eye.
Or maybe you could take the tow hook off the trailer and fasten that to the end of the tow pole, there is usually a convenient through bolt the pole can clip onto, then if necessary rope round it to make sure it doesn't flip...... Heath Robinson rules!
Shackle on tow ball or 2 if wrong angle and tow hook doesn't swivel. Correct size shackle won't jump off ball.
Cheers dd and bert. Not got thetow pole yet so will try it out at screwfix and see if it will gorond the ball. Other than that probably your suggestion bert as just been looking at shackles...just got to get big enough ones. Failing that its give the wife couple of diazepam anduse the tow rope....
Just tried it with mine and it wouldn't go on.
The hook might be just be a large enough diameter but the space between the end of the hook and the pole-end isn't big enough.
A bar is as scary than a rope because you are so near and there can be some interesting events on sharper turns. I always seem to end up with the bar on a diagonal because tow hooks are on opposite sides which means rear braking is prudent despite using a bar.
ok cheers DD. may have to be shackles. Think the manufacturers have missed a trick there unless specifically designed not to.
