Just seen the new car tax rates applicable for new cars registered after April 2017.
Looking at £1200 £1700 and £2000 for petrol and diesels with emissions over 200 g/km .
Is this just to get everyone to buy cars with low emissions or old cars.
Didn't realise they were that high

There can't be many new domestic petrol cars with anything like 200g/km of CO, it would have to weigh well over 3 tons.

Its mostly hot air, possibly to bury the news that they have made the same mistake with wood-burners (stoves) as they did with diesel cars, one minute they are recommending them, the next they realise the amount of really dodgy pollutants they create.

The Government are way behind on the quantity of electric cars they wanted on the road, stories like this scare people into rethinking their options.
