What are peoples oppinions on these, have been looking at them and It seems possible to get a tidy one for about 5k now. Ive heard so many things about reliability with them, are they true. What goes wrong. Also many Ive seen state engine rebuilds are these expensive if they need one and how would you know it would etc.

Again what about the mr2 turbo, these seem cheaper to buy and insure.

If I was to buy an RX7 I'd buy one with **** all miles and 100% service history. They're well known as unreliable and expensive to run.

MR2's a better bet mate, and just as nice to look at imo.

standard engine rebuild for an rx7 ure lookin at 3k verrrryy nice motors tho.

on mr2 turbo's can pick them up for around 3k a nice one for 5k

for me it would have to be the rx7

The RX7 is a much rare car and therefore you would be very unique with one. Also, the good old wankel engines make you even more unique. But then this can be a downfall if anything needs doing to it, as you would have to take it to a specialist.

For all out peace of mind the MR2 would be a better bet. I am biased as MR2's are one of my fave cars of all time, so I would say an MR2 personally smile

RX7s are incredible cars, the problem they have is the "tips" on the rotors wear out after a while so they need replacing,so thats rebuilt time.I forget how often these need doin but i think its 30k intervals. Id have one if i could afford one, MR2s are nice but for some reason im put off by the mid engine set-up. Ever considered a 200SX?? Those are great cars, and with ur budget u could get an S14 i think

I am looking at something you dnt see many of, hence why Ive been looking at really strange cars. But the rx7 and mr2 seem really cheap for what ur getting. I have seen a few rx7 which state rebuilt at 60k and are currently at 70k for £4500. I am seriously considering putting the jag for sale at the end of june. As I am going to be going for a un sensible car am seeing into geting a cheap £500 run around for work etc and put the other to a limited milage of say 2000 a year.

here is a typical one i found, would you say its okay from the description or is this just to gud to be true for the ammount of cash.

I had a test drive in one last year from Japcar, it was a pearl white one. I can't see the use of having it as a daily car as it goes through petrol very quickly. Parts are expensive, and the engine needs full servicing every 20,000 or so miles (I think that's correct, I can't remember). Interior is hideous.
If I was on a bit more money, I would have bought it, awesome performance and every single person gawped at the car, but simply can't afford to run it.
Funnily enough, they're down as a 1.3 on the log-book (even though it's 2 x 1.3's)

Gen 1 and 2 turbo's are nice, really cheap and you don't see them at all now. Still as expensive to run.

Don't buy from Japcar though!!!

that red one seems decent rhys, but i'd tear that spoiler and steering wheel off on day one, ever thought of a sierra coss,u can get them cheap these days

I dnt like them to be honest, am not even a lover of the escort cosworth. I think they are really dated and are only surviving on the name cosworth. But the perfomance from them isnt even that gud compared to todays figures. I say gud car when they come of the production line but not no more. RX7 is my 1st choice. Been on a webpage called jimmysrx7 and they remove the engine replace it for a reconditioned unit and fit and gaurantee it for 12 months for £3000, I dnt think this is to bad aslong as when i get it its okay for a few months till i save enough cash to get it done. It going to be august when i get one as i need to hit my 3year ncb. Even with that the insurance is £2600. lol

Thing to remember when buying an import are the import and profit costs.

To get a car from Japan to the UK - inc everyone in the chain getting a drink and making a profit, you looking at £2500ish.

If you see a car for sale for £5000, chances are it only cost £2500 in Japan (£5000 minus costs) - if you have a look at the jap car trader sites, youll get an idea of what tidy ones are going for, and a "tidy" rex will cost more than £2500!!

Dealers tend to import damaged ones and repair them to keep costs down and maximise their profits, I recon £6-7000 for a decent one....

I aint To worried about it being a really tidy one aslong as the body work etc is okay as I will prob get a rebuild after a few months of having it anyway.Jag going up for sale at the end of the month and am going to buy myself a metro 100 to go to and from work, I say a metro as this is the cheapest for insurance lol. Once the jag is sold and with a bit of extra cash saved up I will be on the luk out for a rx7. So I will deffo have one buy the end of july if i aint changed my mind to somethink else ha ha

I was just thinking to myself I can't really picture Rhys driving a Sierra Cossie, but I deffo cant wait to see you driving a Metro 100 laugh

Anyway, the latest on you have found on autotrader looks quite good, seems a fair price to pay for the standard of car. The seller has stated the door scratch and the interior needing a bit of TLC, which is always good from the buyers pov.

I still say an MR2 though, but thats my bias laugh BTW I really like the RX7 and RX8 too hehe.

Looks very nice, but at £3500 confused ....

Take the import costs off, and the profit, I guess they paid £1500 for that in Japan - what kind of car are you getting for that money?

They come with little or no history, so whos to say it hasnt been "clocked" hence the worn interior but low milage, damage repaired... etc, etc.

If you want a good one, you need to spend the money - you get what you pay for.... frown

It private, not from a dealer. I am guessing that the owner has purchased it from a import company or some1else and sold it after few years of use???

These may not have been inported recently and so the imprort cost wont be accounted for especially if it had 2 or more owner since it had. This might just be depresiation in value since its been in this country.
