Got this off a different board....
The government charge us tax on what we earn, and then tax us when we buy our cars. Then they make us pay tax to own the car, and charge us a ridiculous amount of tax on the fuel for the cars. Then, they go and try and "save money" building those stupid ****ing pyramid speed bumps to stop us driving our cars properly and to rip the bottoms out of our cars rather than speding and extra few quid to make speed bumps that work properly and dont give many people problems.
Its a ****ing joke, we get taxed FOUR TIMES before we drive our cars. Let me work this out...But ill work it backwards so we can see where our "before tax" money goes.
Tank of petrol costing £50 at lets say £1 a litre, fuel tax is currently 70 % so the government gets £35 of that. We pay 17.5% VAT on the £50 which works out at £8.75 and 22% income tax on what we earn which works out at £11.
So for £50 worth of petrol, we actually need to earn £61 before tax, and the government get £54 in total for income tax, VAT and fuel tax.
We then have to pay VAT on the car itself, so say £5000 at 17.5% is £875. We have to pay %22 income tax on the £5000 to pay for the car, so we have to earn 6100 before tax for a 5k car. So for the car purchase of 5000, the government get £1975
We then have to pay tax on the car itself, which works out around £130 a year for most people. We have to actually earn £158.60 to pay for this. Not sure if VAT is charged on car tax??
So to buy a car, tax it and fill it with petrol we need to actually EARN 6319.6 before any taxes, and out of the 6319.6 we earn, the government take £2200. Thats a tax rate of 35%
That means that over one third of our money that we spend so that we can earn money, we will never see.
Lets say that half of the nation own a car worth 5k, and they all bought, taxed, and put 50 of petrol in them at the same time. That works out at the government getting £66,000,000,000 (66 billion)
so lets say, now that everyone has their cars - we then have to pay 158.60 a year for car tax, and lets say a tank of petrol a week at £50. That means we have to earn 3172 a year just to pay for petrol, and the government get 1027 of that in total.
So for half of england to run a car for a year, the government get £31,668,000,000 (31 billion, 668 thousand)
Absoloutely disgusting isnt it... Thats not even taking into account traffic offence charges, court costs etc etc etc. Transport is the ONLY Thing that can be taxed without people being able to stand up to it, because it is something we CANNOT live without.
