sold my yellow 106 gti 2 weeks ago and got a good price and i reckon the guy will look after it so im quite pleased. ive got about 9k to spend on a car but not really sure what one to get. im looking at 2000 plus models of 325 ci's as they're REALLY nice. but its a lot of cash to spend on a car for me.

when i think about it i could get a 5-6k car and have a wedge left over, but then what do i get for 5-6k??

you could get yourself a smart Audi A4.

Or maybe an S3 quattro.

If you wanted to go nutts, go for a porsche and save some money for the insurance, now that would be cool.

Or what about a VX220, Im not just saying it cos its a vauxhall but it's meant to be an amazing little car. If you could afford it (im not sure) a VX220 turbo. eek
Posted By: Gary Re: new car?? - 5th Aug 2006 12:10pm
Ive looked into A4 and the ones i seem to find are high milers or quite bland and plain looking conmpared to a 325.

S3's are super nice but again high milers and im not convinced i could get insured.

porsche yes smart but couldnt really afford one and the same for a vx220 (which is a gorgoues car!)

Old mondeo ST200?? A fab family saloon, altho wrong wheel drive. Ur initial choice is gr8 mate,I'd get an E46 325 Ci coupe with that money
Posted By: Cali_16v Re: new car?? - 5th Aug 2006 1:06pm
TBH you have said for a while you wanted the BMW so to me it looks like your going to be getting one, no matter what anyone says on here.

It's your money and your choice.

I personally dont like BMW's (except the 1 series for some reason) But they are good cars and it will do your proud.

If I had the money, I'd get a Lancia Delta for a couple of months. Why don't you try one of them for a bit?

Stick with a BMW if I was you. They will hold their value better, easy to mod/tune and not that bad on insurance;I insure my M3 evo for £650...What about a 330d or 330i much more poke than the 2.5i??

chris id love an M3 but wouldnt be able to insure one im only 20. the 2.5 is a good compromise as i dont wana be stuck with massive fuel bills.
Posted By: StuyMac Re: new car?? - 7th Aug 2006 1:27pm
Unfortunatly, BHP always comes at the price of larger fuel bills and higher insurance think

TBH I dont know why you sold the 106, your gonna be pretty pushed finding something that feels a lot faster.

....as long as you dont end up settling for something like an IS200 tease
Posted By: Gary Re: new car?? - 7th Aug 2006 2:44pm
stuy im not all THAT fussed on speed to be honestjust something with 'presence' i want, like your old 200 had.

went to buy a 325 yesterday in london, X reg, 40k, FBMWSH, 2 owners leather int looked mint. i got there and it wasnt the nicest of areas and the guy turns up and on the V5 his address is in bristol (warnig bells already) look over the car but then notice that the door looks a diff kinda silver. ask about it but declares all knowledge of any bumps. overspray on door handle and like a white powder coming off inside the door on the welds. look at the bonnet and 1 grill was slightly loose abd one half of it looked like it hadnt been sprayed properly it was like speckly and there was a run on the front (sure BMW wouldnt of let it go like that) so a 10hour round trip for sweet FA !!!
Posted By: scoop Re: new car?? - 7th Aug 2006 6:04pm
Surely there are more than enough 325s about without travelling out of merseyside/cheshire
Posted By: Gary Re: new car?? - 7th Aug 2006 10:37pm
you find a decent one for under 10k mate
Posted By: jimbo4x4 Re: new car?? - 8th Aug 2006 7:59pm
Type R? Or any other vtec'd Honda? Civic VTi's/SIR's are awesome cars.

Liked the sound of the Leon Cupra, they're really nice.
Posted By: Gary Re: new car?? - 8th Aug 2006 8:40pm
thought about a type R mate but they're nothin special really although they are nice but not exceptionally quick either
Posted By: scoop Re: new car?? - 8th Aug 2006 8:44pm
and no torque, steer clear of the TEC. Fookin bag o pish
Posted By: AX_125 Re: new car?? - 8th Aug 2006 9:04pm
You have alot of opinions for an Escort owner.

Don't suppose VTEC would be the most reliable engine and the biggest engine manufacturer in the world if the were a "bag o pish"

It is a case of, you either like them or you don't
Posted By: MattLFC Re: new car?? - 8th Aug 2006 9:24pm
Don't personally see whats wrong with the Civic Type R's Scoop???...

0-60 in 6.4 seconds and as AX has already pointed out, the most reliable engine in the world in the lil VTEC.

Id like to see Ford build as reliable an engine... Oh and the Ford Focus ST is slower then the Type R with a 0-60 of 6.53 seconds.

I still think Gary will end up getting a Beemer though!

smile

scoop i like fords but you have to hold your hands up and say "honda make better engines than ford" come on say it. raftl
Posted By: scoop Re: new car?? - 9th Aug 2006 7:46pm
OK having been chastised by u lot i will state

In MY opinon VTEC engines arent good due to their severe lack of torque, yes theyre VERY reliable and powerful, but with the lack of torque the engine needs to be revved high to get some speed.Just MY opinion, and my opinion of these high revving hondas is "bags o pish"

0-60 aint everything id love to see the Type R beat the ST in a 5th gear roll on from 70!
Posted By: Den Re: new car?? - 9th Aug 2006 8:25pm
my 1.6 i-VTEC is 108 bhp and 111 l/bs, personally i'd say that's not a bad ratio?
