Nice one endo, looks sweet, what do you think of the extra power then matey?
ste only drove it home and parked up as waiting to tax it and took it easy on way home but pulled like a train and so relaxed cruising and quiet but did give it a little blast and is fast enough for now maybe have some tuning done eventually as got lots of ideas but waiting till i have the money and once i get used to it will then upgrade it.
165k Miles
....barely run in for a Volvo
it dose'nt feel like it's done that much mileage more like a car with 50000 miles.
I had one for a couple of years. RICA re-map will bring it up to about 280 BHP & remove the speed limiter. Treat yourself to a front suspension strut brace (a Volvo accessory); it will much improve the handling.
yer i know about the rica and strut brace they are things that i have on the list but doing a service first just ordered the genuine volvo parts today.
Any more news?
Have the parts come yet?
no still waiting on parts but gave it a clean under the bonnet and washed and polished the car today.
Useless without pics
yer but i forgot to take them i will take some on saturday and then post them up.
her you go a couple of pics of it after a proper clean and one at oulton park on saturday afternoon and weather was dull there and it rained on the way there and back so car now needs a wash again dam weather in britain.
at oulton park
been and stripped the inlet off to get at the breather system and cleaned it all out and just got a couple of pipes and then it's back on the road knowing that it's breathing properely and not going to blow any seals which is common prob but wasn't even that much shite in it and the holes in the block were clear.
all sorted replaced 2 hose's and new jubilee's used and volvo inlet gasket from dealers cheaper than ebay so bonus and cleaned the system out and now runs even better than it did.
cool, what are your plans now?
have you not sold the sierra?
nah still got sierra.
no real plans for the ovlov right at the moment going to change the oil as done the other service bits and then when sierra is sold and then sell all the sierra and mini parts that i still have laying about and then look at re-map and cone filter and exhaust and 3 inch downpipe and then look at lowering kit plus 2 new rear tyres will need doing soon and maybe look for a set of wheels eventually.
new update of underbonnet now it's back together as removed a pipe thats not supposed to be there.
What was the pipe & why was it there?
some idiot put it into the breather from the top of the head and went to the airbox but not needed now i have done the service on the breather system and know that it is clear so repaired the hose that they drilled hole in
Was going to swap the Astra for an AWD T5, they're quality cars.
yer they make a really nice noise but the awd unless you buy an r are 193 bhp not 225 bhp.
i'm looking at lowering springs and new dampers probably bilstein as coilovers are expensive good ones are over £1000 and going to fit a genuine volvo strut brace as they make a difference and fit poly bushes to wishbone's top engine mount.
engine nice and clean! i like it
Just been speaking to somebody and looks like my Volvo is an ex police car so should have the bigger brakes and better lower arms and explains a few things about it and why it's so sweet and drives so well, so i will be checking it out tomorrow and see if i can find any trace off lights etc.
Usually holes in the dashboard are a good sign!
posibly wouldn't have any holes in dash as it has a sunroof and would of been an unmarked car so will be having a look for any unusual wiring.
Look behind the radio at the wiring. I know a lot of radios have cut up wiring but it it looks professionally done, it could have had a police radio in. Also check the connections to the headlight and rear light bulbs, that's a good tell tail sign.
had a look at headlight's and has had wiring there plus brackets by the radiator and wiring on back light's so yep has been a un-marked police car so i will be looking on police series now for it pursuing cars.
i'll pull the radio out and check the wiring there and has 4 holes on centre console where the radio must of been mounted.
I want the light's and bells on it now.lol
I had an ex-police Sierra Sapphire Cosworth a few years ago, was beautifully maintained and never missed a beat, despite an obviously hard life. They are usually maintained regardless of cost. Those Volvo 5-pots are tough old birds as long as you keep the boost sensible.
yep it's a proper sleeper and boost is wound up and sounds fantastic just waiting to get back on the road as not drove it for over 4 months due to my back having a disc out of place and only just getting back to walking so hope to drive it soon and mot time next month so got some bits to do as i can actually get down on the floor now so can do bits of work as long as it don't snow.
Will it have performance parts fitted?
Seems to me they are just well serviced cars with softer pads and "maybe" just more boost.
police spec is bigger front brakes and pads specific to the police, uprated bottom arms but tuning is normally not touched so they say but who knows and not sure if they have the lsd box and better spec clutch as the clutch is heavy and really grippy in mine and seems to spin both wheels not just one but haven't drove it for 4 months so could have an open diff as i thought that it had as did think it was a standard T5 but then it's been abused but well serviced etc by the police, just a shame they took all the lights etc of it.
You can soon do an easy LSD test, park one wheel on wet grass, the other on some tarmac, and see how long it takes to pull away. That or lift the whole front of the car and turn one wheel. If you have an LSD the other wheel will turn at the same speed and in the same direction.
Clutches in the 850 are pretty heavy duty stock, I've been involved with tuning two Geffen Motorsports 850R's a few years back and I seem to recall we all commented on how heavy the clutch was for a production car.
I'd be in the market for an 850R if the insurance weren't so ridiculous.
Look for signs of sticker removal, hand cuff colars on the floor and donought wrappers in the glove box!
yer going to check the diff if it's lsd or not as had a few cars with lsd.
no donought wrappers in the glovebox as it's had a few owners since being an unmarked manchester traffic car as checked and was registered in manchester just got to check now with them if it was indeed used as unmarked traffic car.
the clutch upgrade is to put the one from the R in as they are upgraded.
I know a policman that used a set of front pads in 121 miles in a t5 as the auto in the marked traffic car at the time took some slowing down
121 miles
They must be crap pads!
stu try stopping a car that weighs 1500 kgs before adding 2 fat policemen and all the stuff that they carry so probably 1800-1900 kgs and with auto box you can't slow down through the gears, 121 miles was after high speed motorway chase.
The 5 series BMWs weight that, and they dont munch the std pads
There used to be a 4x4 Cavalier on the Wirral, going back 15 years or so, and that had been played with by Turbo Technics - the engine even had the chrome plug cover with their logo on
i remember the black one i chased it one day across the 4 bridges it went very well and it used to park on seabank road
This one was a fully marked traffic car
oh not remember that one or i would of been in trouble if it was the same one.lol
just sent a letter to manchester police asking if they would confirm that the volvo was an ex-police car and exactly what it used for and see if i can have it returned to police spec for show use and for them to use for publicity displays as there are a fair few old police cars that are used for shows and have been used by the police for demo's and at schools, I've even found a specialist ex-police car club to join once i know more about the Volvo.
