I thought Id share this with you, even though not necesarrily my car. Right, to jog everyones memories, heres Little Red, the car which we competed in 3 events with in last year.

Unfortunately during the winter months, we noticed that the chassis rail had rusted away, quite a serious problem, which resulted in its "Untimely Death" frown

So, we managed to get hold of an N Reg Mk3 Fiesta and thus work began

First car had a 1600 Zetec from an Escort to propel us along. Completely standard engine with around 100,000 miles on the clock. We guessed that cos of ehr age and use, it had around 65-70bhp raftl

She did us proud, but for the new car, we decided to step up a class and put in a nice 2.0L Zetec from a Mondeo. 136bhp standard, with a performance manifold ECU etc, were guessing around 138-140 bhp through the front wheels. This is the equivalent of around 180-190 bhp/tonne, which in such a small well handling car will be plenty enough.

So, Engine went in, bumpers and cage from the red car went straight in as well..just a case of fitting exhasut, welding cage and finishing the electrics etc.. plumbing extinguisher so on and so forth. As an added bonus, my driver, Barney, built a fibreglass Lightpod for the car, in case we ever end up doing night stages in future

And so today, we took her onto the road for the first time since the build began. It felt good to strap back into such a thing, and fro our first run, despite the clutch needing adjustment (Slipping when we put full power down) the car is significantly faster than the old one, and we believe easily capable of holding its own against Imprezas etc.. basically anything thats chucked at us in our new class. Obviously we dont expect class wins , but we certainly expect to be in the top 20 leaderboard when we do start taking it rallying, hopefully next year laugh

Heres the pics of the finished article, weve decided to paint the wing mirrors fluorescent pink, and we will have a pink stripe around the cara s well, just because we can raftl raftl

The second Fiesta (On the left) is the other car in our X2B team, a track car also with a 2.0L Zetec. Both cars are fast laugh laugh

Nice, would you be able to fit Bike TB's in that class?
Posted By: MGCraig Re: AlfaCraig: Mk III Fiesta - Rally Car : V2 - 19th May 2009 6:20pm
Ive heard of it being done in the past, but not too sure if Im honest. Theyre tring to cut down on "Hybrid" cars in rallying, such as Andy Burtons Pug 306 with a cosworth engine. I think the rules stipulate that it wont be allowed if it wasnt originally available on the car.

Thinking on that though, that would render most WRC cars etc useless, so who knows?

We've limited cash at the minute, so modifications are limited. We do intend to get uprated cams etc... but only time will tell happy

For that level of tune i'd say cam change, then inlet as it looks like the 1.6 to me, the 1.8 is better and will fit within the bulkhead or go for the Focus 2.0 inlet.

After that a management change to maybe Megasquirt with suitible mapping may break 150-160bhp

Crossflow power. Shouldve kept the old pushrod, just for the noise alone smile

Thats quite a tranformation and i cant see why it wont do well. Plenty of scope for upgrades and development aswell, and loads of off the shelf parts too.

Check your class about bike ITB's or bike Carbs. If you can fit them there is a company called bogg brothers who will make a manifold up and it wont cost five billion pounds either. Bike carbs are pretty clever these days to prevent shitty low speed running so id say theyre worth it, or if youve got the pennies Megasquirt and bike ITB's.

In the long runs those Zetecs take well to head work and can be made pretty competative compared to XE's and 16v Pinto's. A lot of Rally boys are looking at them now and conversion parts are getting cheaper for Escorts.

Ill upload a video to youtube and post it here, sound quality isnt great, but it gives an idea of the cars speed and sound.

Believe me, it sounds like the worlds falling apart laugh

Cant wait to get it on some stages next year...

Heres the vid.
Youll notice clutch is slipping, we're hoping that the top layer just needs skimming off with use as it hasnt been used for a few months after it was last "Razzed"

Even not puttin full power down due to the clutch, we reached 80 (kmh raftl ) very very quickly laugh

Funnily enough, we were watching the BTCC at Donington, and when the Formula Renaults came past (all 28 of them !!) Barney noticed Alice Powell's creation...and liked the idea of it. I was skeptical at first, but first mirrors done, second one just needs lacquering, then we need to get pink stripes for the bumpers and side of the car. Itll stand out raftl

Were both suffering with funding atm, very badly frown
I need to get my temp job at the coop back as soon as I come home and start working, as Im going on Holiday in August and need as much funding as possible. Also the fact that I havent reknewed my club membership or my Navi Licence as we werent gonna be driving this year. Basically, were not competing at all this year frown frown

Thos Fiestas are really nice to chuck around, I had a 1.1 years ago and it seemed to slide everywhere but keep pointing the right way.
