A pub that serves alcohol every day from 09:00 has opened at a service station on the M40 motorway near Beaconsfield, 25 miles west of London.

It's not ON the Motorway. It's NEAR the Motorway. Reality check!

Ste, I know Mark & the BBC both said "on the M40" - but if you would spend a bit less time making text huge and red, and care to actually go LOOK at where the Beaconsfield "Service Area" is actually located (on Google Earth or whatever), you would see that the services are NOT "on" the M40 Motorway at all. You have to completely leave the motorway and use local roads to get to the "Services" - which by the way, unlike most Motorway Services, are fully available for use by Local traffic that has nothing to do with the M40 Motorway at all. Hence my "Reality Check" comment.
This is lot of hype about nothing. There are plenty of other places in Britain where you can exit a Motorway and find a local pub within less than a mile of the exit - and no-one is making a sog and dance about them...!

Nearly every main road and many minor roads in Britain has a pub on it--so are we only arguing about alcohol and speed(MPH)

Almost Mark, though The Swan, despite being near the motorway, is also slap bang in the middle of a residential area, the services isnt.

I suspect the pub has been built totally to attract motorway traffic, but not for people who want a pint going to / from work.

When I first read the story, my reaction was the same as Ste's - pointless, but after a bit of reading, the services also have an Ibis hotel. I suspect the pub is there to get the business off people staying there - evening meals / drinks etc. Ive stayed in quite a few hotels on motorway junctions (like this one on the M74 (Holiday Inn with Toby Carvery) ) as they are easy for access in / out of citys for work, and quite a few of these Holiday Inns / Travel Lodges / Premier Inns etc have a pub attached, like a Toby Carvery or similar for breakfasts / evening meals etc.

TBH Im not sure why the media has made such a song and dance about it, the one example Ive linked, Ive been using it for about 10 years....

BBC jumping on a "story" and taking it at face value - with an obvious total lack of research! (If they had, they'd have seen what we did!)
